Core Design

Post by thor849 »

Just out of curiosity, how do manufacturers go about designing cores? It seems that each company has a core that is reused numerous times, can the core be changed significantly by altering weights? For example, Brunswick used the mushroom core from the Danger Zone numerous times over the years. Were they able to alter the core significantly by altering the chemical makeup? Also, what kind of numbers would a pyramid shaped core or a cube shaped core produce? Btw I'm not in the business of making bowling balls, just an interested bystander.

Ball motion is created by combining a core with a coverstock. Cores add to the motion by managing the mass properties (RGs and all diffs.) and the core shape, core volume, and core densities to control the shape of the ball's motion. It is a very complex field and, as the song says, "little things mean a lot."
