Hi,
The weather is getting warmer so last night I needed to take tape out of my thumb and if I take all the tape out it leaves a sticky residue behind that I can't get out at the lanes. I use the storm black tape which I like except the residue. I will take all the tape out now clean out the residue with some solvent and tape at the lanes but is was very frustrating last night as I was a little tight and hung up. Any suggestions? Thanks Steve

Re: Thumb Tape Residue
Switchgrips.
I have several different thumbs to switch in and out. 8 to be exact. My thumb is very weather dependent in its size. I used to fight with tape in and out, sticky residue and poor fit. Not these days.
I get a new thumb insert whenever I get a new ball, making sure it is different in some way. It has given me the opportunity to experiment with different pitches as well as having different sizes.
I keep one that is 2 sizes too large just in case. Only had to use this one a couple of times. Wishing I had it back in the day when traveling down south for the National tournament and dealing with a thumbhole that was too tight because of the hot weather. Those frustrating tournaments made it easy to spend $25 just in case.

Re: Thumb Tape Residue
isopropyl alcohol typically works for me. Otherwise rub, rub, rub and it comes out.

Re: Thumb Tape Residue
Thanks for the suggestions. I have been considering the interchangeable thumbs and use brake clean or isopropyl alcohol to clean it. Steve

Re: Thumb Tape Residue
I had this issue last week. First throw post tape removal launched the ball very high! Pro shop used some alcohol but didn’t work. I sprayed some ball cleaner/conditioner on my towel and worked it for a minute and came out clean as a whistle.
For me, it takes 8/10 shots to get my fingers and thumb to temperature and fit. Pre-bowl is very limited so lucky to get 4 shots in. I’m toying with the idea of taping my thumb instead of the hole this week. I normally use one piece of fast tape on the back of my thumb. Thought I’d try a piece or two of medium turbo on front until it comes up to temperature and size.

Re: Thumb Tape Residue
Thanks for the reply. I have been using alcohol to clean and that works for me. I have also found out that using a piece of the black tape over white works good too as the white does not leave the residue the black does. since the weather has got cold here my thumb does not change as much as summer time. Re: Thumb Tape Residue
I use an aerosol bumper sticker remover to remove the tape residue, but the particular product I use (Klean Strip Sticker Shock) has been discontinued. They have a similar product by Klean Strip on Amazon, but its like $25 a bottle.
The 6oz bottle of this stuff has lasted me almost 20 years. Works great. Not sure if its safe for an interchangable thumb, but if you spray it on a napkin or paper towel, that would help not to get it on the bottom of the thumb hole.
