I voted yes. I suppose if I was an elite player, bowling on tour for a living I'd have a different answer.
Go Browns, Indians, Cavs, Buckeyes

Re: Poll - Keep ball reps out of active competition?
I think John did the old double switch on you.
The poll question asks: Should Ball Company Reps be allowed to Interact with bowlers during a match?
Re: Poll - Keep ball reps out of active competition?
The good news is that votes may be changed.
MegaMavs discussion thread has arguments for and against this question.
This poll has drawn more votes than any I recall on the forum.
Sorry for any confusion.
No intention to pull a Mr. Merriweather

Re: Poll - Keep ball reps out of active competition?
I've noticed that the last several tournaments have not had the reps out there during competition (maybe during commercial break or between games, but that's cool by me) and I don't think the competition has suffered at all . . .

Re: Poll - Keep ball reps out of active competition?
Good to see people around again. I've been busy with my career and away from bowling due to some health issues.
I still stay close to bowling by drilling balls locally for a select few friends. Don't worry, I'm still paying attention.
I voted "Yes," under the condition that it was for professional national-level tournaments. With most of the players in the big show being on a staff, it's important for the sport, manufacturers, and the PBA that the players performing at that level have access to the best equipment and strategy available.
In the context of the regional and national senior tour, I would have to say "No." Fewer players are on ball contracts and may have limited access to equipment, coaching, or advice from a ball rep at these levels of competition. This does not mean that players with contracts at these levels do not deserve to be brand ambassadors; an active coach or ball rep just creates a perception of inequitable competition. A perception that the sport does not need.
Moving forward:
This conversation also shows the need for the professional bowling's governing bodies to create a developmental program in addition to the regional competition. We're talking having qualifying members gain access to structured grassroots/regional level training camps that coincide with the regional competition. We're talking about structured training opportunities related to physical game, health and fitness, media/marketing, and human performance/sport psychology. Basically creating opportunities for up-and-coming players to hone their craft in a structured manner.
The PBA does a PBA JR situation, but I am not sure if it's just a "Sports Tourism" money grab, or a legitimate proving ground for young players to hone their craft. To me, a true developmental "program" involves actual education and training outside the context of competition.

Re: Poll - Keep ball reps out of active competition?
I said yes because I'm struggling to think of another sport that doesn't allow its coaches to interact with their players during a game.
The closest is golf, but the players all have caddies.
I think it's good for the sport to let the ball reps consult, because we've all had "that guy" tell us before that pro bowlers aren't that great; he saw one shoot 165 on TV and he can do that in his own league so he's as good as they are, blahblahblahblah, etc. If getting some advice from a ball rep lifts the scoring floor on TV (as long as it's because of the skill/shotmaking and not a cooked-up lane pattern) I'm fine with it.
