Re: Brunswick purchases EBI
I had read that. From what I've read, it is going to be a battle between storm and Brunswick as the two major bowling ball companies. Brunswick says that they will keep the names of all the ebi brands.
Seems similar to how storm owns 900 global but most of their balls are poured out of Utah. So it looks like ebi brands are going to have the same names itll just be ran under the Brunswick umbrella.

... and made in Mexico.
Re: Brunswick purchases EBI
I had to look this up. Went to this place:
https://www.ballreviews.com/brunswick/b ... te!!!!/15/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (you can backtrack a page or two)
Seems EBI might have been closing and if that is the case then Brunswick buying them saved the names of the brands. I don't know why they couldn't keep the Kentucky plant open though.
I did a search on Kentucky plant closing on yahoo. There has been a ton of plants closing recently there. Something needs to be done about that.

Lets be nicer to each other.
Brunswick balls have been made in Mexico for 10+ years now.
Everyone should be adjusted to it by now.

Re: Brunswick purchases EBI
Where are Storm (and 900global and Roto Grip) balls being made?
I heard that high performance ones are made in the US and low/spareballs are made in Mexico. Is there any truth to that?
Are Storm balls also being made in the same Mexican plant as Brunswick's.

This is correct. Storm plastics are shipped with Brunswick labels on the shipping boxes.TheJesus wrote:Where are Storm (and 900global and Roto Grip) balls being made?

Is it only spareballs (by Storm) that are made in the Brunswick factory?MegaMav wrote:

Don't forget that many American employees travel each day back and forward to Mexico.RobMautner wrote:How do you "get adjusted" to food being taken out of the mouths of Americans; all in the name of the almighty dollar?
It's just made by Americans but just on the other side of the border.....
Re: Brunswick purchases EBI
Your theory suggests that people only play if the equipment is made in their home country. That would result in the game only being played in the USA, Mexico, China, and maybe one or two more places. The international aspect of bowling would be gone, so much for bowling ever being an Olympic Sport.RobMautner wrote:How do you "get adjusted" to food being taken out of the mouths of Americans; all in the name of the almighty dollar?

Here in NE Ohio the Chevy Cruz plant was shut down costing 1700 jobs not 100s. Either way it sucks, but it is a part of life.RobMautner wrote:How do you "get adjusted" to food being taken out of the mouths of Americans; all in the name of the almighty dollar?
Word is EBI was broke, would you rather the plant shut and all the brands die?
The bigger question is will Big B use their formulations for covers or EBI's?

My sympathies to those directly affected.
I've been similarly affected twice in two different career paths, with the second time, faced with the prospect of the gray ceiling of employment prospects.
Both were domestic machinations.
Fortunately for me I landed on my feet both times, though the journey was not easy or pleasant.
My best wishes to the families.
Preparing a populace for tomorrow, not yesteryear is a noble endeavor if not an absolute duty of every leader throughout the world.
Don't fall into the scapegoat gambit. Do not look for easy solutions to complex problems.

Re: Brunswick purchases EBI
When I first read this my initial feeling was a feeling like I wanted to boycott Brunswick. After reading more and more things like I posted earlier, Brunswick basically saved the brands from being extinct. I looked at a guy called "the bowlers rant" on youtube, and there was a guy saying that he personally knows someone that had worked there for 34 years (in the comment section). He was told 30 min before the shift ended that he no longer had a job. That is EBI's fault there for not informing anyone. Leaving that plant open might have "stretched" Brunswick too far out. With both manufacturing places located so far apart, when it is easier when things are under 1 roof.
I used to buy a lot of Brunswick equipment, but I haven't in recent years as the proshop I deal with doesn't carry any of their stuff. The last ball I got from them was a BTU and at the time, no one else had anything similar to it. I have to look at this scientifically. A bowling ball is made up of a core and a cover and other then that they are all basically the same. It doesn't matter where it is made, it doesn't matter in the performance of it. I am not brand specific, I have every major brand except for Motiv. If you close your mind off to a brand, you might lose something that could feel in a gap that you need. If you don't know much about balls and covers, then it might be easier to stick with 1 brand because it is easier that away to pick a different ball with a different reaction.
The last time I bought a ball, I went in saying I wanted a heavy to medium heavy symmetric ball that could read the midlane well. (my scandal cracked in half). At the time there was only two options, Storm Supersonic or a Rotogrip Idol. Before this, I wanted a light oil ball that would go further down the lane and be smooth off the backend. I have a rocketship for medium from storm, I ended up getting a Rotogrip Hustle because storm doesn't have anything I could use. (I wanted a solid).
The only shoes I buy are new balance which are made in the USA. I don't buy them just because they are made in the USA, I buy them because they fit better then anything I have tried and because of the tech involved in them such a rollbar etc.
If I had to rank companies in preference I would do these: #1 radical (I have never bought a ball from that company that I didn't like how it rolled) #2 Storm (most of my balls is this) #3 Hammer (been buying Hammers since 1990s and like the name and pretty good balls) Then there is the rest.
This list will be different for everyone. I NEVER have had a Brunswick lablel bowling ball "roll" good for me, and that is because I didn't know how to throw the thing right. (My first ball was a Brunswick Laser) I can't fault them on that. I have a BTU and it does what it is suppose to do.
In conclusion, I think that EBI should have let the public have some kind of notice that they weren't making money etc and there is a lot of misguided anger directed at Brunswick.

Yet Brunswick employs hundreds of American workers who cross the border from Texas to the factory every day. Never-mind the fact that they also have their R & D and regional rep's based out of Michigan, employing hundreds more American workers. I guess the food going in those mouths doesn't count?RobMautner wrote:How do you "get adjusted" to food being taken out of the mouths of Americans; all in the name of the almighty dollar?
