Summer leagues

I don't see a thread with this. The summer leagues have started here. We have just a few leagues, there is Monday and Tuesday no tap and then also Thursday was suppose to be a doubles league. It started today, I drove 40 min through traffic to get to it and they said it was cancelled due to lack of interest.

What is your thoughts on no tap? Your paying $15 a week to mainly throw just 1 ball and you lose a lot of 1/2 frames each game. I think people join this thing to get high averages. The only good thing I can see about this, is that you can use it to learn to play deeper. 4 people on each lane will wear the pattern down a little. I used the last few weeks of winter league to learn to play deeper. The deeper I got the higher I scored.

We have a deal where if you are in a league, then you get the league rate of $2 a game instead of $4. I just found out that you don't have to be in a summer league this time to get that rate.

So for this entire summer, The only thing that I will bowl normal on will be some version of some year of the US open championships. It is $14 to put down the pattern on 2 lanes. I wish I could do it only on 1. I will put it down one night and bowl whatever I can on it. Then the next morning go before anyone touches it and bowl on it again. I will do that once or twice a week. Then the rest of the time work on that 1 step drill until I think I got it correctly. The one step drill can be done on anything no matter how wet or dry.

anyone else out there have any kind of good leagues or anything going on in the summer?

There's a single's scratch league Thursdays here that I joined. It plays like a sweeper tournament every week. $20 you bowl 3 games across 3 pairs and top 4 have a roll off for a small payout. If you get 4th you bowled for free because you get your 20 back. then it's 25 for 3rd, 30 for 2nd and 40 for 1st. Get points for where you finish the night *1 point per person you beat, if there are 35 people and you beat 32 you get 32 points.* At the end of the league I guess there's a roll off for better money? I didn't really ask about that, but I think that's what the points are for. Lot of good bowlers, takes right around 700 to make the top 4. Tonight it was 700-720-770-780 top 4. First two weeks have been a big eye opener for me, as I never bowled in a league with so many good bowlers. I really enjoy it because it's helping me bowl better as well. Other than that, yeah there's just a bunch of "fun" leagues meant for the less serious bowlers. I don't really care to bowl in a no-tap league myself, but I can see how it could be fun for my kids to bowl in. I did want to find a mixed league for me and the kids to bowl *they are all 18 or older*, but they didn't seem interested enough to get the information together.

My summer league starts Monday 5/13. It's 12 weeks with 12 different patterns plus free bowling on Tuesdays.

This will be my second league I joined since the early 2000s. I am hoping to really hone my game and have a great score.

No summer leaques for me. Don't like to be tied to a leaque in the summer. I will go out and practice when I want. Most the houses I bowl at have specials durning the summer and the shot is reasonable. I would like to practice on a sport shot but don't see that happening. Steve

For me, No Tap is all for fun in the summer. It's a way to enjoy the game and not worry about all the pesky corner pins. Not saying we shouldn't continue to practice them. The center I bowl at offers many open bowling discounts over the summer and that's when I practice my corner pins.
But No Tap is a fun night out with teammates.
On the other hand, I'm returning to bowling tonight after being away for 8 weeks with a TFCC tear in my wrist. A cortisone shot this week has taken the pain away. Time will tell. If the pain returns, then surgery could be in my future. If that happens, I'm planning on switching to my left hand.

In the NW Chicago Suburbs I have 3 houses with summer senior leagues 10 minutes from home. $6 with 50 cent practice games; $13 with 7 free practice games, $11 with 3 free practice games a day. Plus loads of evening summer leagues from THS, to Sports Leagues, to no tap.

I don't care for no tap. Knocking out corner pins, or picking them up when you leave them is 90% of the challenge of the game.

Summer leagues, here in Muskegon Michigan the summer used to be when the lanes did maintenance and refinish the wood lanes so bowlers played golf. That is what I did. Gone are the days of wood lanes and maintenance. I'm still golfing.
