Folks, the thumb hole fit on a couple of my pieces is too loose and when I put tape in, it's too tight.
Any suggestions?

Question: What brand of tape do you use and what type?
Re: Thumb hole fit problem

Put it lower to get your thumb out quicker. Might try some slick tape on the back side of thumb hole. You can also blow in the thumb hole like WRWJr, snugs it up a little.

44 has some good suggestions IMHO.markkuhn wrote:Storm, white tape.
I've switched to Real Bowler's Tape rather than white. Vise newer colored tapes are excellent, too.
These tapes tend to hold up better and they're not as sticky on the thumb pad. Allows for a cleaner release.
Also, rather than having the tape near the top of the hole, place it down farther. Perhaps 1/2 to 5/8ths inch or even more depending upon how long your thumb is.
Consider using black tape on the back of the thumb hole rather than white as they are typically thinner than the white tape. Ebonite's Ultra Grip black tape is thicker than most and it's easier to work with as it doesn't tend to bend back while placing it in the hole. Their Powerhouse brand black tape is pretty good, too, but a little thinner.
Hope this helps...

Lots of great tips, thanks.
I was worried it would need to be plugged and redrilled, but lots of options to try now.
Probably happening because of the colder temps outside affecting my fingers.
