Some of the Storm Tech Videos show some use of this.
A post by bowl1820 about the Storm Pin Buffer system contains videos that show some use of SPECTO when illustrating Pin Buffer System effects on ball motion. That is where I bumped into it.
Specto is a new tracking system for centers, bowlers, and coaches. It records information about bowlers’ shots using a high-power sensor and displays it to them on an easy-to-use app.

Re: SPECTO Bowler Tracking system
I don't know if I completely trust SPECTO. The reason I say this is when I tried using it at the house I bowl in I got huge differences in rev rate on shots that looked identical.
Speed off hand and ball motion seemed accurate but rev rate had over 100rpm difference at times when shots looked identical.
I don't know where on lane rev rate info is determined but lanes were dry that day and ball would roll out early which could possibly explain the difference.

Re: SPECTO Bowler Tracking system
It's sad that SPECTO is so darn expensive. If centers in the US with 40 lanes only buy SPECTO for a few selected lanes, how could centers with 6-16 lanes afford it, when they have a large(r) base of active players (with active in Norway, I mean properly active, averaging 175+ on sport shots, playing tournaments and national league)

Re: SPECTO Bowler Tracking system
CATS systems are really rare too, but even at a much cheaper price I don’t see many centers would be interested, more interested in spending their money on video games etc.
In Reno I took a lesson with Mike Jasnau on his Lane 81 at the National Bowling Stadium with full CATS system etc. He did not use his sophisticated system for rev rate though, he said it wasn’t accurate or reliable for that. He used the old way of putting a piece of tape on my ball, video taping it and counting the revs

Re: SPECTO Bowler Tracking system
Seems Specto makes up an RPM # from your ball motion. I believe 260 more than 400.
Still am happy my house has it though. Some good insights on what works for me (harder and straighter than my current comfort zone). I am sure I'll use it again.

Re: SPECTO Bowler Tracking system
I was down at Kegel last winter and they said not to trust the rev rate information. Everything else is supposed to be quite accurate as they're using a high resolution LIDAR setup.Bluelobstor wrote:I don't know if I completely trust SPECTO. They must be approximating RPM based on the speed and shape of the motion, because they're not (to my knowledge) tracking anything visually on the ball that would give them RPMs.
My own personal experience is that RPM actually seemed fairly accurate as an average over time, and it did vary about 90 RPM across 30 shots. This could be my own shot to shot inconsistency or a weakness with the system.

Re: SPECTO Bowler Tracking system
The Storm video on how to find revs and speed, measures them on total lane, not off your hand. Both speed and revs change during a shot, and are affected by ball type, lane surface, oil pattern etc. I prefer to measure them off the hand,,and up to the arrows. That is what you put in as a player. The rest of the parameters are different all the time.
