several 9 pin leaves and 0 corners

short version:

I moved more inside and threw it out and back in today. ( playing 12 out to 7 or 8 and back in) The reaction was really well. 1st 2 games shot 513. I left 1 or 2 9 pins 1st game I think, 1 2nd game and 1 or 2 3rd game. The ball was rolling well. 9/12 strikes first game or so. 8/9 out of 12 2nd. What is the reason for leaving the 9 pin? is it too much drive with the ball? I read this: https://www.mrbowling300.net/post/9-pin-leave-6245269" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I didn't get much out of it though. Also what would you do to fix that or just keep it the way it is? i did notice the 6 pin was offset several times during the night and had to rerack it. I also read that the bigger hook people leave the 9 alot. I finally figured out how to pull my fingers though the ball to have it rotate more.

just looked it up, had 5 9's counts. 4 were 9 pins 1 was a 4 pin due to being high.

I haven't had that issue before. I am used to playing a bit straighter though. I started off throwing it slanted because I liked that reaction. I moved from 8 at the arrows to 12 to test it out and stayed there afterward. There was a ton of miss room. I missed several times left (hard to project it / ways) and still held and struck. Also I missed 4 boards right 1 time. I hit 8 instead of 12, stomped the ground turned around and it struck. The release was good though. Missing anything right and not pulling on the ball with the fingers never gets it to come back.

The ball is still hooking as it enters the pins. It started the hook phase too late. There are several remedies: come more up the back of the ball, put more surface on the ball, or use a ball with a lower RG.

One of the myriad of things I learned from Don Johnson was to have a small hole drilled in your PAP and paint the inside.
Now this back in the urethane era, I.E. before track flare was engineered into bowling balls, before the concept of balance holes. That was a helpful tool.
Using a highly visible piece of tape during practice can help train your eyes.

For the purposes of awareness, you can Mark your PAP and role the ball at different rates of speed for the purpose of monitoring and perceiving phases of ball motion.

Check out Don's illustration on his video on the wiki, it's on the second one.

Theoretically, in an ideal strike, your ball should split 2 pockets, the front one and the one right behind it. That is the 1-3 and 5-9 for a RHB, the 1-2 and 5-8 for a LHB, reverse if rolling a backup of reverse hook.

One of the reasons many pros dropped gross weight in bowling balls was to cut the force through the pins.

Extremes in lifr such as too much or too little, are in many cases not a good thing.

Just a FYI painting the inside of a hole would be illegal.
"No foreign material may be placed on the outer surface of the ball or in the balance hole, in-
cluding but not limited to paint, marker or whiteout. Bowling tape is acceptable in a balance
hole."

Now You can drill a hole and plug it though, I put a small 1/8th" hole on my pap and fill it with white. I can see than during league up in the heads and in practice it makes a good mark to put a piece of tape on when I want a bigger mark.

Thanks for the correction.

I've been out of the game too long, evidently so has my mind.
Has the rule about painting the inside of the hole been that way from inception or an amendment?
Back in the day I have carved a little X on the PAP as a place to mark the PAP.

I couldn't tell you when it started, other than years ago.

Glad I wasn't the only one leaving 9 pins last night, had 5 myself one coming after having the front 9. Would a smart move at that point be moving further left to try and get the ball through all 3 phases. I tried balling down and seemed to have quite the issue with over under. ( went from a pin up Turmoil solid to a pin down SoniQ)?

1st game a 9 pin interrupted my 10 in a row.
2nd game a 9 pin interrupted 8 in a row.
3rd game sort of fell apart. 8th frame told someone what happend last week (2 opens in last 2 frames), then after I did I did 2 huge splits. 2 10 and then a 1 2 4 10. Don't know why it comes down to the last few frames hoping to get clean game and then mess up.

but on the 9 pin deal. I liked where I was. The ball had massive power when it hit the pins and had things flying all over. I only moved 1/2 board once and that was when I left a 4 pin during middle or end of game 2 or something.

atleats the 9 is really easy to get. Just throw straight down 8 board. I can't remember when I didn't leave 1 7 or even 1 10 the whole night. I was thinking. I need to tell nord what can happen when you move off the 2nd arrow but then blew it in the 3rd.

I wouldn't move if you leave a 9 unless you know for sure your ball is ending up like left of the 8 or something and not in the middle. I left a 9 then got 7 or 8 in a row after it. I had a few bad racks and some pins fell funny a few times. I had a bad shot and left a 9 etc. You have to see and judge was it a good shot or not. If it was a good shot and it never bounced in the pocket then maybe move left might help. I really didn't pay too much attention to where the ball ended up after it hit the pocket I need to get back on track looking at that.

Here is a thought about discerning the PAP orientation.
I think someone mentioned drilling a hole in the PAP then plugging with a contrasting color.
I wonder if contrasting finger grips and thumb slug would help?
Of course, noting the amount of deflection at front pocket impact and second pocket point of hit are cogent points of observation.

Thoughts ?
