Hmmmm...tonight in Kearny league...maybe

I have the Gladiator at 1000 grit dull right now.
I have not tried it yet.
Should I keep it at that finish for the ball up 16-12 shot, or do I need a different finish?

I think I made a bigger improvement here than a few inches.
Below are photos of before and after showing the height of my final follow through.

As to my thumb.
As I pointed out before in the thread, I do insert it all the way in, but as soon as the weight of the ball hangs on it, the ball pulls down until it hooks into the crease in my thumb.
The ball can't stay up all the way since there is nothing for it to hold onto.
I have 7/8" forward pitch, to get it to stay up there would possibly require much more pitch.
I guess this is the way it is with a suitcase grip?

I will get the Jackpot plugged and drilled up to your specs ASAP.
And I will soon start an Open House wandering in the area on and right of first arrow.
Thank you again for your help!
Will let you know how things go.

Add shine to the Rack Attack by refinishing it wet so you can play out to the right.
The outside line will be key to getting a greater angle to the pocket, more strikes and less 10s.
Key to success will be your projection. You wont have a lot of hold, but you will have angle.

Weaker covers at shiny finishes and weaker drilling will get your ball to hook long enough to get a good angle on the pocket. This is the protblem with no tilt bowlers. Use surface and the ball checks and rolls at any sign of grab from the lane. So you either play in the oil to get the skid on the ball, problem is, you're a low rev rate bowler and the angle is too shallow for you to score effectively, so we have to go the other way, and bring it from the right. Start as far right as you can.

Gladiator at 1000 should be good for 16 at the arrows to 12 at the breakpoint on the shot shown in video when you have to make a big move in. YOU CANNOT DUMP THE BALL RIGHT or the ball will grab the friction, roll forward and bucket.
You still have a long way to go with projection, I'd like to see it at least forehead level or higher to get it down lane.
If you insert the thumb all the way in the ball and it falls out, you need more tape. Put enough tape in where the thumb feels like it has material surrounding it but not tight. Putting tape in the back will give the feeling of increasing forward pitch slightly.

So to be clear for the Jackpot layout and finish:

1.5" x 45* from center of grip on the Jackpot.
4000 grit polished, or no polish?

And you are saying low flare/higher grit urethane is not an option for playing way out there to the right?

It could for now, until you get a reactive with more angle to it.
There is nothing safe about playing in the 5-4-3 area of the lane, but you can be rewarded.

Ok, I have my True Motion urethane with Axis Weight layout.
That ball will just float nice, easy and not jump left on misses left.
I could try that tonight out there.
I can take it up to 2000 or even 3000 grit.
Thoughts?

I wonder how many times the words "True Motion with axis weight" has been said in this thread.

Will let you know how it goes.
I should have the Jackpot ready for Thursday at Surf.

IMO, you should work on the new ideas during practice. You've said your team is in contention for league first place. Use what you are most comfortable with in competition. -- JohnP

We are in 7th in the league tonight.
But I get what you are saying.
I will just try some shots in warmup and if it looks very promising then maybe I will put it into action.
So far at the Kearny flood nothing has worked, so what have I got to lose?

When playing the outside, it's a good idea to keep your shoulders relatively closed at point of release.

I also have my Arsenal Angular Particle Reactive with Axis Layout.
If I take the grit up to a shiny 3000 with a Trizac pad, that ball can get real far up the lane and then is very angular.
Should I try it?

Sure, try multiple balls in practice.
3rd one will be your shiny urethane.
2nd one will be your shinier reactives.
1st one you dont have the projection to make happen in the dry part of the lane.

The goal is simple: Hit the pocket from a greater angle from the right.
Try your urethane, Rack Attack and Arsenal Angular in practice.
Have the Gladiator ready to jump in if you lose your look from the right.
If you're the only person out there you can probably stay out there for 3 games.
If you do something big on the scoreboard, dont be surprised if you get company out there.
Bowlers are the greatest imitators.

You say you're accurate. Time to put it to work.

Not something I'd recommend normally, but, polish it due to your 0 tilt.
