How does excessive rain, humidity etc effect lane play.

Post by krava »

I tried to search for this here and couldn't find anything. Right now it has been pouring all day and will continue today and tomorrow. When you go into restaurants, the tiles are slick as if they just mopped and didn't try to dry them.

I am trying to find this out because we bowl today against a team that only bowls straight with low averages and people that bowl like that, the lanes can be anything and won't effect their play. I am down to only 1 pin handicap against these people on the bottom and trying to figure out if I should just bowl myself blind today or what.

I came up with this article:
http://www.kegel.net/wpa/ted04" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

the ending this this: "In conclusion, get to know your lanes; identify how they’re shaped and how weather change affects their shape. " I have no idea how to do that. The article talks about decomressions, compressions, crowns and all kinds of things. It isn't like you can see this stuff, the lanes look flat and we aren't looking at them under a microscope.

What is the quick and dirty answer? More humidity makes the balls slow down and therefore more hook? I only know that more humidty makes the approaches more tachy.

found article bowl1820 wrote few years ago: http://www.bowlingboards.com/threads/16 ... nd-BOWLING!!" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;! ok skip that none of those links work any more.

Bowl1820: hasn't lane conditions changed a lot since that was written in 2010? I don't know much about the conditioners back then, I have only really bowled seriously for 2 years now.

Went and found out they changed the rules. If the team doesn't show up, we have to bowl them blind or they can come and post bowl. If they would forfeit (rules in the fall at first if you don't show up ) then I would have just walked out.

We had major rain fall and probably 100% humidity. This is almost the most humid place in the US with all the mosquitos and all. The lanes acted as if it was normal with very light tachy approaches. I am not sure if it was me of the weather though. I started off trying to dry out the 6 board around the breakpoint so I could miss right a bit and it would come back. During play I had several balls go probably 2 boards right on me and still came back which felt really good. I didn't notice any difference in the condition then what the "normal condition" usually is.

The bowling center put in new systems and the speed control sensors about 2 months ago and then just took them out because it wasn't compatible with their system in the back or something. They installed these new systems they have about 2 weeks ago. The good thing about these new systems is that after you bowl and they input your scores, you get emailed a score card that shows every ball you throw and what you got in every frame. The bad thing is that it doesn't show splits.

http://www.syncpassport.com/MyScores/Sc ... AAAADrGC41" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

2nd game 7th frame left a 4 6 (2 inner pins of the big 4) 3rd game 2nd frame left a 2 4 10 but got it. I guess it doesn't have the symbols for the circle and the split.

Then that bings up a question. What does it mean when your 2nd game is your lowest game? It is like I know what I am doing at the start, then I forget what I am doing, then I come back strong. 2nd game I moved 1/2 board left because my last ball jumped just slightly on me in the 12th frame. I didn't make any other move after that and used the same ball same everything as I did the first game and the 3rd game.

my season average from what the league secretary says shows: 1st game average is 219 2nd game is 208 and then 3rd game average is 226.

I didn't want to go bowling today because I didn't want to let my partner down. I didn't think those people would show up to begin with because of the weather. 2nd game I bowled 182 or so, partner barely bowled his average and we lost that game because of me. He let me know it sort of saying "well we lost that one". if I didn't bowl we would have won them all. Average is just too high to get every single game.

Paralysis by over-analysis. Do not worry about the minor details. Seriously just watch what your ball does on the lanes and go from there. Knowing how each ball in your bag reacts and balling up or down properly will be the deciding factor in score.

I know every ball and what it does. I bring 9 balls (3 bags with me). I shouldn't do that because when I start out switching balls I might as well call it game over. I used 1 ball plus spare yesterday and 1 ball plus spare today (same exact ball and same exact lane condition).

I did learn something though. I have changed my "benchmark ball". I first put a benchmark ball as a control ball. A ball that won't over or under react.

By using the radical ridiculous (new benchmark ball), I can tell just how much backend the lane has. I can tell just how slick the lane is. The benchmark ball is the ball I want to take out of my bag at first and start using.
