2 handed bowling WITH thumb
So I am currently a 2 handed bowler and I do not use my thumb. I have been bowling in a league and noticed someone bowling 2 handed but also using their thumb which I have not seen before.
I was just curious what people think about this and if this can help with more control while keeping the same speed and revs or if anyone else has seen this before.
Thank you,
Brett

Sean Maldonado on tour uses his thumb; it’s all about your comfort if you’d like it or not.

Perfect I'll look him up.
Also curious about thumb hole placement?
Can you have the thumb hole in normal position as if you bowled with one hand or does it need to be a little cock-eyed? I could see a normal thumb position being a little uncomfortable but can't seem to find a layout online.

Everyone’s thumbhole is a little bit different, main thing is to tell your PSO that you’re a 2 hander so you get the pitches right. You might have to change finger pitches as well. All depends on your comfort and fit.

Normal thumb hole location can be used, as with most things will depend on good fit and your flexibility.bself6 wrote:Perfect I'll look him up.

See attachment below, thumb fully in the ball.

Re: 2 handed bowling WITH thumb
I drilled up a couple of balls with a thumb to see how it rolled. I'd suggest starting with a bit more reverse in the thumb and not as tight a thumbhole to begin with.
if you like it I would experiment going a little more forward and more tight and see if that is better or worse.
I really liked the thumb in the ball and was seriously considering drilling a thumb in all my bowling balls

Note: Make sure if you add a thumb hole to a ball that didn't have one just finger holes, That the static weights are correct for the new center of grip.

Increase control. Improves length (preventing early hooking)
Decrease revs.
I have done both.
IMHO - if you are going to put the thumb in, go one handed

Re: 2 handed bowling WITH thumb
Why not drill a super large thumbhole, 1 3/8" or 1 1/2" and pitch it with a lot of reverse and left (for a rightie) lateral. Put the thumb in but don't grip, the USBC rules don't say you have to actually grip. Then the grip center will be between the fingers and the thumb and you could use a balance hole if desired. It would be interesting to see how that huge thumb hole affected the ball's characteristics. -- JohnP
