Feelings you have when someone on your team beats you that s

The topic should state: Feelings that you have when someone on your team beats you that shouldn't. Now I might definitely be wrong on this one. I just want to see if anyone feels like me. First of all if someone's average is significantly lower then yours, I naturally think they shouldn't beat you. Lets say that you have a 200 average and someone else has a 170. There shouldn't be anyway that person beats you unless you have had a really bad day. Does anyone feel I don't want to call it bad but maybe embarrassed?, when someone on your team with a lot lower average beats you? Here is what I am dealing with. I bowl in a double's league and first of all my partner is a female and 2nd of all the person is at least 20 years older then me. I am getting way up there myself. Since this person is female (maybe not all females are like that but a majority, she has a lower rev rate and also a lighter ball (14 or 15lb I forgot) and also slower ball speed). So lets take gender out of the question. Suppose you have someone that has a significant lower rev rate, lighter ball, throws it slower and that person is way up there in age. You wouldn't find that much of a challenge or 2nd thought to it right?

So keeping it in mind. This person's average at her home house is 198 I was told.(she has 168 or might went up now I haven't looked at this house). Last week she shot 216 (603? series) and I shot 226 (735?) the same game. Once she shot 243 and I shot 249 or something. She gets on a roll sometimes and I am thinking that I better do something or its my ass. Maybe that pushes me to do better I don't know. I just feel that I shouldn't get beat by her in any game. I don't know if that is a normal feeling or why I feel like that or what. I mean every high game she gets she deserves but it is added stress for me to keep up with her and not get beat. If you take out that 1 529 series, I think she might have got me once out of 24 games or so. Maybe it is a male thing and not let a female beat you? I think that is probably it though. I know I had a guy with a 150 average bowl 200+ once last year and beat me and I didn't think anything of it but he had a good game and congratulated him on it. I tell her that she had a good game etc too. Here is the crazy thing though. If I could pick anyone else to bowl with, my first choice would be that 230 average guy that bowls left handed (so he gets away from my area), and my 2nd pick would probably be her. I never seen her bowl before or anything or even knew who she was and was thrown together with her and she was thrown with me. I just had to rant on that. I am not used to that at all. People on my team last year had 115 or so average and no chance on earth to beat me. This new person has the ability to beat my ass and I have to watch out for it. From what I see her style and my style is almost the same. I even told her she throws the ball like me or I throw the ball like her (at least when playing up the boards). She can't play inside of 10 she can't get it to come back.

Two issues:

It's an AVERAGE. Just because your average is higher does not mean that you are going to bowl higher all the time.

Why are you competing with someone on your own team? How about worrying about beating the other team and being happy for your teammate? You must be a real joy to bowl with!

Let's face it; in the sport of bowling, anyone can beat anyone in a one game match. Is it possible that I bowl a one game match against Walter Ray and win? Yes I could. I might carry the world and he happen to have a bad game. Does that mean I'm better?

Here is a pro example. In the summer of 1993 Walter Ray was destroying the competition. He led three straight tournaments, and I was a spectator at the second one. He was the top seed, and during the tournament he had 4 300 games. The title match was between him and Brian Davis. This was the first PBA tournament EVER that Brian entered. Walter Ray shot 267, only to lose to Brian's 299 game. Do you think that Brian should have beaten the hottest bowler on the planet? Considering he never won again, never made another show, and I don't think ever made match play again, he shouldn't have. But he did.

The bottom line is, especially at the league level, sometimes bowlers that suck beat good bowlers. It happens. I know because I used to be the bowler that sucked and sometimes beat players WAY better than me. Some of them were infuriated at my five or six brooklyn strikes per game. Once you accept it's going to happen, it's not going to bother you as much.

krava, man do you have issues. You should be celebrating your partner on such great games. Never before have i read a post like yours. You don't deserve her or be on this site.

I couldn't careless if someone on my team bowled better than I did. It just means that my team did just that much better, It's the people on the other team I'm worried about.

Now if I bowled bad and that's why they scored higher than me, That's on me.
So keeping it in mind. This person's average at her home house is 198 I was told.(she has 168 or might went up now I haven't looked at this house). This basically makes it sound like she only beat you once out of about 9 series and your down in the dumps about it.
Maybe it is a male thing and not let a female beat you? I think that is probably it though. ............................................. People on my team last year had 115 or so average and no chance on earth to beat me. This new person has the ability to beat my ass and I have to watch out for it.
Judging by these two statements, I'd say it's not that a female beat you. It's just your worried you might not be the top dog on your team.

Why on earth are you bowling with people who average 115?! It sounds like you're bowling in a beginner league so you can be the big star.

I'd never bowl with people that have averages that low, because it's not fair to them. I'd rather bowl in a league like I do, where high average is 240, and there are way more people that can kick my butt than vice versa. That's going to make me a better bowler.

Considering you can't stand being beaten by a woman, I think your main problem is your ego.

I have to apologize for this thread because it is very shaky ground. First of all I want my partner to do as well as she can every time she bowls. Maybe this will make it easier to understand. When I was 17/18 I was bowling with my grandmother that got me into this. We would practice every weekend. I can't remember but it is 3 hours long for $10 or $20 or something I don't remember. This was back in 1989/1990. My average was 183 or so and hers was 146. I couldn't let her beat me then. Right now I feel like I am in the same situation. I am out there on the lanes going against her again. This time I know what I am doing and I am a alot better and I can't let her beat me this time. I should sometimes not say what I am thinking and I am guilty about that alot. But I know there are some people out there that would feel embarrassed if their grandmother went out on the lanes and beat them. I thought about this alot last night and some today. why do I feel like this etc and I finally figured it out. The answer is because of my past. I was 16 and she was 65. You know how you feel like when you are that young. No older person can out run you etc and that. Everytime that my partner gets on a roll I start to smile and think I am in trouble but I did answer this question myself. When I am out there I just feel 16 again and going against my real grandmother again like the old days. You have seen those Pepsi commercials where pro basketball stars dress up as old men and play younger guys that think they are something. I believe it is a natural feeling to have but I probably shouldn't have posted it and the whole thread can be deleted. Yes I do have some issues to work though. I have almost a complete lack of social skills.

I bowled in the beginner league because last summer I tore my right shoulder in 2 places. (may 2016) I had to switch over to left handed. My left hand average was 86 when I started bowling left handed in the summer and I got it up to around 105 or so by the time Fall came. I would throw one ball in the left gutter and one in the right gutter on the next ball. I had no idea how long I would be out or if I would ever be able to bowl again right handed. By October my left hand everage was maybe 130 if that. I didn't want to go into my normal league and have an average 100 pins below some people. I did join the good league once a spot was open back in March or so. I also joined the sport league last summer before I hurt my shoulder. The average person bowling in that sport league had been bowling 20-30 years non stop while I only had 2 years experience being out 10 years once and 14 years on top of that. I was way out classed. My average was 186 compared to most of them in the 210+ category. I am definitely not scared to bowl with the best of the best. I am definitely not going to go spend $1300 on a trip to NY to bowl against people with 209+ averages and probably 0 of them have been bowling consistently for less then 5 years.

...ok one thing is being beat by a girl but... was she using a pink Hello Kitty ball? ...now that would have been adding insult to injury... lighten up Krava, bowling is supposed to be fun. I am also a surfer, which doesn't compare much to bowling but there is a great lesson learned when someone asked an old wise surfer "who is the best surfer on the beach?" Old wise surfer replied "the one having the most fun".

I can't agree with this either. I'm in a recreational league, and my team often has friends with 115 averages or below. For good reason, they're new bowlers that are just having a good time. This season, I led the league in average at 233 and had a teammate that finished at 109.

This league isn't supposed to make me better, it's a recreational league. Bowling is supposed to be fun, and bowling with my college buddies is fun whether they're good or not. But as a bigger picture, how do you expect bowling to grow if experienced bowlers won't invite inexperienced bowlers to join them? Bowling has a lot of problems in marketing, but ultimately the marketing starts with us.

I went to bed 7pm last night and woke up 12:45 pm today. I thought about this before I went to sleep etc. When I wrote this I put embaressed? The question mark was there because I didn't know what I was feeling. Embaressed isn't the right word. Embaressed is when you have your pants down etc and someone wants in on you. The thing I was feeling was worse then this and I didn't know what it was until I thought it out. What I was feeling was sadness over a loss. The person I bowl with is exactly like my grandmother but bowls better. She wears a bowling shirt everytime she comes bowling while I have worn bascially a gym clothes setup each time except the last time I went. She talks about bowling and loves it. My grandmother was really into bowling and did bowl several times a week. She went on trips to the senior olympics etc. This person has the same type hair cut, looks close to what she looked like etc. So the feeling I was feeling was me missing my grandmother because my partner reminds me of her so much.

Yes it definetely reminds me of the times I was bowling with my grandmother and I was in deep competition with her. Probably alot of you know how it is when you are in competition with another family member. I got beat a ton when I first joined the league in the fall and didn't really feel embaressed about someone beating me. I was more embarressed or ashamed of throwing the ball in the gutter and getting 00 for a frame a whole lot of times. I was embaressed in Las Vegas with the low scores but I brought that apon myself for not playing the right line. Its bad enough trying to hit a mark out on the boards and then you have to add the fact to add the exact same diagonal angle each time and that is just too much to deal with.

I will comment on a few things in the thread. #1 it was my idea to use the hello kitty ball against everyone in the league. I could average around 170 or so with just that 1 ball. As for people bowling with low averages in regular league, I have no problem with it. Just as long as they are bowling as good as they can. Don't average 110 and then shoot 170 straight for the next 3 weeks then something is wrong. I believe I had someone on my team bowling under 100 average also. it was 115 135 109 and 91 or something was the other 4 people's averages. 2 of those people shared 1 spot though. If it was me, I would teach them what to do, I don't want someone saying "Stop telling me what I am doing.... or gripe about me trying to help them. If someone ask I will help if not then I won't butt in. I will probably be in 3 leagues this fall (more then 1 league for the first time in my life), One will be that beginner league if you call it that. It is only $13 a week and I will use it to pad my average and also to hopefully get several more honor scores. I will also bowl in the most competiitive league in the bowling center. Then the next league will be at a different house "the easy house" to get more honor scores etc. If there was a sport league I would take it because that would help.

The other comment "big fish in a small pond". I looked it up and it is 1400 miles I am not sure how much further albany is. It says the drive is the same time 20 hours as to Las Vegas. I have to have a wild hair up my butt to go there but that is a slight possiblity. I still don't think it is fair to put me into the Regular catagory. I have been back bowling now for 2 years (after 10 years off and then 14 years off before that) when fall comes (6 months) of that I was out of commisson hurt. So how is someone with just 2 years experience suppose to compete against people that have been bowling all their lives, went to college and got trained, had alot of money and had coaches train them every day etc. Then throw it on top of that being almost blind. Right eye detached retina in 4-5 places and was sewed up and I have a pernament scar tissue in the middle of vision in my left eye giving me 20/80-20/100 corrected vision. Right eye had partially detached retina and lasered twice and scar tissue from that. Right now I have a very large posterior detached vitreous that the dr doesn't want to fix (right eye). To give you an example of what that vision is like alot of the time think about this. Take a pair of glasses and lick your index finger. Then rub that finger around the lense of your glasses so there is a slight film on it. Then try to see through it. You will see alot of haze. Also the brighter the light the glare is really intense blocking the vision. Then compound the fact I can't find a sport league to bowl in to get any kind of practice on that condition. When I went to nationals in April I over bowled and almost reinjured my shoulder also. If you look, I only bowled in nationals, I paid for bowler's journal but got a refund a day after nationals since I was still hurt. I didn't bowl in the 40 fame game either. I drove that far I wanted all 3 tournaments. My shoulder was finally back 100% 2 weeks ago. I didn't practice or anything only going 1 time a week to let it heal. If I wasn't hurt I would have bowled in those other 2. So how is it fair for me to bowl against all that?

This link is to a wiki page on Al Weiss a former major league baseball player. Al's career average was .219, in essence a powder puff good field no hit player.
In the 1969 World Series, Al's bat was a key factor in the Mets stunning upset of the Baltimore Orioles.

Even a blind squirrel gets a nut every now and then.

Cheers!

By the way, thanks Al wherever you are and to the rest of those Miracle Mets and to AFVN radio for carrying the World Series and other major events.

Man, do you love excuses.

Look, the open championships are not supposed to be totally fair. No sporting event ever is supposed to be fair. If you're beaten by someone that bowled collegiately and still practices often with a top coach, they've earned that win with all the work they've put in. That's what makes this a sport and not a game. I guarantee every bowler at and near the top of the regular standings did not just see their first gold coach a few weeks ago, and certainly didn't debate if it was worthwhile to do so.

Think about the themes of this thread:
- "I'm way too good of a bowler to get lose to a 170 average woman!"
- "I'm way too inexperienced of a bowler to compete against good bowlers!"

You can't have it both ways. If you don't want to compete, don't compete. 99% of the regular division has no chance to win and knows it. There is still plenty of cash spots to make it a cheap trip and plenty of fun to be had at the tournament. If that's not enough for you, don't bowl it.

Yes being accurate & consistent is a lot of work, but you got to deal with it.
I will comment on a few things in the thread. #1 it was my idea to use the hello kitty ball against everyone in the league. I could average around 170 or so with just that 1 ball.
TonyPR mentions a hello kitty ball and now you say you had thought about using a hello kitty ball for the whole league. yeah okay

As for people bowling with low averages in regular league, I have no problem with it. Just as long as they are bowling as good as they can.

That's okay.
Don't average 110 and then shoot 170 straight for the next 3 weeks then something is wrong.
Oh you mean it's okay to bowl as good as you can and have a 110 average, just as long as you don't bowl over it!

How does a 110 average bowler shooting above average indicate something is wrong?

and do you mean wrong for you? or wrong for them?

If someone ask I will help if not then I won't butt in.
Yes, it is usually wise not to offer advice until someone asks for it.

I will probably be in 3 leagues this fall (more then 1 league for the first time in my life), One will be that beginner league if you call it that. It is only $13 a week and I will use it to pad my average and also to hopefully get several more honor scores.
Pad your average???

I will also bowl in the most competiitive league in the bowling center.
Good luck!
Then the next league will be at a different house "the easy house" to get more honor scores etc.
A feel good average and more honor scores league then.
If there was a sport league I would take it because that would help.
Yes, a sport league gives a player a good dose of reality about their bowling abilities.
I still don't think it is fair to put me into the Regular catagory........ So how is it fair for me to bowl against all that?
What would you consider fair?
