Compare and Contrast. Observing commonalities.

Perhaps obvious to many, these are some ways to learn.

I want to mention that a lot can be learned about the physical game by reading the Analytical work provided by Jim Merrell.

There are common attributes, numerous annotated pictures and the bowlers video.

In the end, dividends are often commensurate with investment when it comes to study.

Remember, you can download videos of other bowlers.
Let's say you can't see what Jim see's via casual observation.
Well using free software you can break things down.

Video of you, side by side with a model bowler with a similar body type etc, is one way of visual comparison.
There are hundreds of lessons out there gratis courtesy of Jim and the vehicle of This Forum.

Know of a better resource for bowlers?

If every bowling center had advocates like some on this forum, this sport could grow and be what many of us would like it to be. Folks like to perform well.

Believe me, I have seen people charging money for lessons that are far inferior to Jim's offerings.

Jim's reply and illustration

is an opportunity to remind the curious mind, that Jim's posts are examples often using the principle of "compare and contrast".

Real people, real problems, real cause and effect, real solutions.

Cheers.

"compare and contrast" is THE fundamental way to learn in the modern world. Compare and contrast allows the learner to open up to non limited possibilities. We live in a world (reality) of openness that offers infinite possibilities. We do not live in a closed world reality. The synergistic effect of comparing and contrasting allows the learner to discover possibilities that were not known before hand. The active, inquiring, synergistic mind is a process that is terrible to waste.

Impetus for this reply, a post by Antonio.

In absence of personal coaching -

Antonio, as an aid but not a substitute to direct one on one coaching.

You will note the use of annotated still photography in Jim's video.
Using your own video from SIMILAR camera angles, create a picture of YOU at the same point as the pictures of Jason and Osku. Do a side by side comparison.

Also make good use of FRAME by FRAME analysis. Things happen quickly.
Note that some times the symptoms can trick us into looking at the wrong things.

The side by side or A to B comparison (compare and contrast) is an age old tried and true method of analysis for many things, not only bowling

Always put a piece of highly visible tape on your PAP during practice.
