World Senior's Championship

Post by JimH »

The USBC recently posted a notice on BOWL.COM looking for applications the World Seniors Championships for Team USA to compete in this event for those age 50 or over.

I am sure other countries are also preparing teams for this competition which will be held in Las Vegas from August 23-30 2015.

It would be nice to know if any members of BowlingChat are represented in the tournament and I wish them good luck as well as good bowling.

Thanks Jim.
I agree, it would be nice to know and follow.

I hope all is well in the Emerald Isle.
Take care.
May all beings everywhere be happy and free,
and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life
contribute in some way to that happiness
and to that freedom for all.

Hi Kalmyk, and JimH:

Neither of you are going? Or aren't you old enough? I'd love to go to something like this if I were better at bowling. I'm still not consistent enough...

I'd love to follow this tournament too, so if some one finds out how, please let us know, and if you are attending it, as well!!! Would love to know how you do!!!! Good luck!!

According to the USBC website Team USA will provide some financial support, details are on the website. The first thing to do is to get your application in. Financially it is going to cost a lot more to get to Las Vegas from Australia or New Zealand than Central Florida. Perhaps your local bowling association can provide some financial support or help organize fund raising events if you do make the team.

I suggest people in other countries contact their National Association to get details on the arrangements for being selected to the team

I will not be attending, I have not bowled in a competition in a very long time. I only bowl now when I am coaching and I am trying to demonstrate something.

Things are well in the Emerald Isle, everything is still green except for those trees that have shed their leaves. As spring is only a few weeks away I expect to see the trees starting to bud and provide homes for the birds which have already started to pair off.

The Aussie team roll off is in Melbourne at the end of the month. Unfortunately TBA have decided that the roll off is only open to members who were Silver members in 2014, otherwise I would have given it a shot.
Taking a couple of juniors I coach to the Hong Kong International instead, should be fun. ads, you up for a shot at Doubles?

The World Senior's Championship is not known here. And certainly I will miss it.

LabRat, welcome to HK and give me a shout before you come. The Hong Kong Int'l Open will be postponed to August this year.

Applications must be with the USBC by March 25th. When I first looked at bowl.com the link to the world seniors was on the home page, a few minutes ago I had to search for it using the home page search function. Perhaps some member of the USBC can contact them and try to get it put back. The reality is that many seniors are not comfortable using computers, hiding stuff from them will not encourage them. Grandchildren are not always around to help.

New Zealand is hoping to send a mens & womens team at a cost of approx $4k per person, which will be self funded if no funding is found. Glad our friendly neighbours Australia have plenty of comps us Kiwis compete in.

I just had a look at the WTBA tournament rules, the only things mentioned are Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals. I am sure one would look nice in a display case in your home.

yes that would ne nice. so, if I sign up, I have to get to vegas, qualify, and then go with the team of bowlers who made the team?
I dont know at what point, if any, the team's trip is cpvered or if ots still on the bowler to foot the expenses.

You may have read in an earlier post that the bowlers from New Zealand are prepaired to pay up to US$4000 each to take part in the tournament. They hope to get some sponsorship or funding from the New Zealand authorities. To me that is demonstrating a high level of dedication to spirit of the competition. Each country that competes in the competition needs to decide if a team will be entered, then how to select the team, and also how to fund the trip.

The USBC web site has stated that some level of financial support will be provided by the USBC. Selection of the team and financial support are issues for the USBC. If these are major issues for you then perhaps you may not want to submit you name to the USBC for the team.

yes, unfortunately dedication to the sport is a large part of what I do. financial cpnstraints should not prevent anyone capable of competing. I see talent around my area that will never be able to compete in the International arena because that is not possible financially.

I never hear about these events usually till they are over.
