Need some help softening my release

Post by Mongo »

I've fought "the grabbies" for years. I thought I had shaken them, but they pop up without warning and turn the easiest house shot into wet/dry hell.

Can somebody give me some tips/drills on how to rid myself of these greek church creators?

A few quick thoughts.
First, rule out elements of the grip including type of inserts used if any, type, amount and application of tape in ball and or on you. Skin condition, how the ball is drilled. Use the right ball so as not to fall into the trap of working the ball too hard.
Keep this trick in your bag of tricks, the principle of over exaggeration or going to the extreme opposite.
You work from the opposite pole so to speak back to the happy medium. Don Johnson spoke of this in his teachings, fluff and finesse it ...
Use imagery in you minds eye. If you are not familiar with Pete Weber, look him up on YouTube, study his fingers as they travel to the top of the follow through. His fingers are OPEN, salute the pins don't punch them.
Think soft and smooth, try softer, think roll, not throw. Roll it like a raw egg.
Do submit video to eliminate guesswork.
I'd add video of Weber, but am limited as to what I know how to do on this device.
Think of the song from Frozen, "Let it go, let it go ..."
One more thought, using a one step or kneel down drill might help you isolate and focus, divide and conquer, do submit that video, see wiki for how to create good videos for analysis.
Good luck.
May all beings everywhere be happy and free,
and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life
contribute in some way to that happiness
and to that freedom for all.

1st get permission from the bowling center. Roll about 6-8 shots and find out how far you loft the ball .Then place a towel half of the distance of the loft . The goal is to roll the ball onto the towel. Once you have consistently hit the towel then move the towel closer to you. Keep doing so until you are now rolling the ball.
Make sure you don't slow down your arm speed when doing this drill.

Thanks for the input all.

Went to see a friend who recently got his Silver Certification and we put in some work.

I've got work to do, but as far as the release goes, I was letting my wrist collapse in the backswing and loading up/grabbing at the bottom.

Been working on firming up wrist throughout swing and softening up at the bottom, definitely helping.

Now.....just 4-5 other things to work on.
