Couple questions

Post by paladyr »

I have a tropical storm bowling ball and I'm a new bowler.

Playing what feel like oily lanes to me, I don't get much hook out of this ball throwing at 15mph (which is comfortable for me). I start with my instep on board 13 and target mark 10 to hit the pocket. If I slow it down to <13mph and move accordingly (I forget where exactly, but still targeting 10-8 mark) the ball hits the 1 pin too light. On dryer lanes, my instep was board 23 targeting mark 11 throwing at 12.5mph and it worked really well.

Questions:
1. Is there more room for error with a bigger hook?
2. Should I just get a more reactive ball for oily lanes? (Someone gave me a rotogrip unhinged ball I can get redrilled, would that suffice?)

I'm currently looking for a coach but figured I would ask here now in case it takes a little while to find one.

Thanks!

Most house shots, the further outside you go, the less oil you find, and the more your ball will hook. I would start with moving 5 and 3 right, and if that still isn't enough, another 5 and 3 right.

It went great! He gave me some things to work on and helped me pick out a ball with more grip (Roto Grip Show Off). My current ball also was drilled slightly off so I'm getting that fixed as well.

Overall great experience, I only wish I had done it sooner!
