Ball speed

Post by ballspoint »

Hi, it is my intention to move my feet closer to the foul line to slow the ball down, how much closer would be needed to slow the ball down, plus what other actions/proplems could come in to play that could affect timing. Cheers.
R/H, 20 mph off hand. 250 Revs.
11* Tilt. 70* Rotation. 5 5/8 x 1"up

Speed is an asset in today's game.
Why do you want to slow down?
How is your speed generated?
What are your metrics, bowling bio, etc?
Submitting a video would be a good idea.
Though footwork in Bowling is unique to the sport, you have avoid shackeling your natural rhythm and flow to the foul line.
The point of the questioning is to help ascertain the cure suits the condition.
Remember that drilling technique and equipment choices can be used to compliment your assets.
Take care.
May all beings everywhere be happy and free,
and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life
contribute in some way to that happiness
and to that freedom for all.

As i am speed dominant/ low revs, i am trying to slow down to get some hook on the med/ long long patterns. I have got strong drilling on strong balls, but if my speed is too fast on the long oil... I have noticed during warmup on the 1st few throws the ball is hooking but as i get warmed up into my usual speed the hooks goes. So was just asking for advice here. Cheers.

You need to slow your feet down. Moving up on the approach probably won't work. See my earlier post "Solution for fast feet" and "help, too much ball speed"

Ballspoint, have you tried working with a coach? Consider posting your specs, e.g. speed, tilt, axis rotation, RPMS, and a video for analysis. Speed control and command of several rates is an asset for sure, but get some opinions based on data and video evidence too, it could not hurt.
P.S. Tom Kouros' s book "Par bowling, the challenge" has an abundance of information surpassed by none . Yes it's an old book but consider what Brian Voss had to say about the differences between the old and the new ...
Speed is still an important part of the equation.
Consider all the components of your game, while you may never be a revmaster, you might still be able to improve that and other parts.

Best of luck and perseverance.
Take care.

Check into DYDS - joe Slowinski.

I am also high speed low revs until I did this and now I am much more balanced than ever before.

Achieving more with less effort will help you get your physical game straightened out.

What is your speed now? Why are you trying to lower speed as opposed to trying to increase your rev rate to get more matched?

I am working on DYDS, i have just had time with our national coach, that has helped. He has me working on a free swing and not too fast feet, which is giving me slower ball speed to give the ball time to work. The next is more revs, thats a work in progress, so thanks for the comments so far.
