Excellent video! Is it a coincidence that approximately 95% of the bowlers in this video tuck their pinky?

There is a strong level of play from the INSIDE of the ball. It has been stated on this website, and this video proves it; top level athletes in our sport work the INSIDE of the ball.
It is a pleasure to watch this, thank you for posting.

First off let me apologize for my perfectionist tendencies.GBuck wrote:Excellent video! Is it a coincidence that approximately 95% of the bowlers in this video tuck their pinky?
Only 54% of the strike shots had the pinky tucked.
29% of the pinky tuckers did not strike.
It would be more accurate to say most of the shots thrown were low tilt. I would say almost all were low tilt.
I did not analyze the actual tilt but would categorize them all as low tilt.
That is where I would ask if there is a coincidence.

RE: low tilt in the releases
it is my understanding that lower tilt helps control the backend of the lane...could that be the reason for the low tilt in the sample of the releases we were seeing?

Lack of tilt makes the ball hard to control with rotation.dougsterner wrote:RE: low tilt in the releases

Even PDW has gained a bit of tilt to make the ball transition smoother.

When I am really trying to get the ball to hook on slicker or longer patterns I roll the ball with lower tilt

when you say "lower tilt", how does that compare to the specs you list in your signature?

Re: Hand Releases-2013 Bowling World Championships-Men's
Lower than my specs, less than 10* I can get my track right up next to my thumb and fingers and the track measures 12-12.5" across. Normal unforced release is about 1-1.5" off the grip holes, track measuring 11" across. It is what happens when I try to get more revs on the ball. It is what I refer to as my rev dominant release. Revs only go up slightly and ball speed goes down.

Re: Hand Releases-2013 Bowling World Championships-Men's
ok just that i noticed a few similarities with our specs. my normal track measures 11 inches on one of my balls with pin low natural release. the ball with pin high is lighter 15#, and i can make the tilt go as high as 23 causing the track to be much lower on that ball. of course i put more tilt on that ball if i use the "clock" my fingers would point to just under 10 0'clock. as i come back towards center with my releases, my normal release seems to be 10-11 o'clock which causes my track to be 11 inches and tilt at 15 degrees. that's why i use that in my specs. it's my baseline release and tilt and axis of rotation.
i will have to look at the videos i just took because i was experimenting with my release to affect tilt.
i will let you know.
