recommended video camera?
What camera is recommended for coaching? I'm considering the go pro black edition. I would prefer to keep the cost at 500 or less please. Thank you

Re: recommended video camera?
I can not speak from an instructors point of view, but for my self analysis and that of a buddy of mine, I recently bought the "Casio Exilim EX-ZR300 16.1 MP" and a cheap tripod.
Together it went for 150€ (new!)
I only bought it for its videos and boy did it deliver.
Great quality slow motion videos.
You don't even need much lighting if you dont mind some flickering from the lightbulbs.
The slower you get, the smaller the the recording window, but at 120 fps (which is plenty, because given the right tools you can slow it down even further) you can see the whole approach very well.
For the release you can go even slower. 240 fps do the trick quite well, though in theory you could go slower. But I never tried that.
To sum up: Very good camera for a low low price.
I'd buy it again!
Edit: Will link two example videos soon. They are uploading right now. (It's me in the videos, so don't laugh too loud )
Edit 2:
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (120 fps, zoomed in)
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (240 fps, zoomed in)
Edit 3: Changed the settings from "private" to "not listed" so you can actually watch the videos!
Hope this helped.

Re: recommended video camera?
all Casio highspeed cameras are usefull. They have videorates of 1000f/sec. A used one will be good enough. Write in Ebay searchfield "exilim + highspeed". to get an overview of what is availible
As Fuitfly stated. They all need a lot of light because the quick shutter. The faster the shutter the less light will reach the sensor. Thats why you have to serve more light.
Staying below 150 mice will be posilble

Re: recommended video camera?
I'm looking at cameras guys. I have 2 that look pretty good and I doubt they will need to have too much lighting issues as the Casios. I believe 120 fps at 848 x 480 will be sufficient dont you think?
Also 60 fps should be enough to catch release freezes which is all we need right?
Here are some more links to two other cameras reasonably priced i'm looking at:

http://www.everbuying.com/product134489.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; -
I like the OC 5120 a little better because it has two modes at 60 fps.
I could not find that Exiim Casio less than 225.00. if that one matches price with these i'll get it. I am still looking so if anyone has any with these specs or better i'd be interested.

Re: recommended video camera?
If you want to capture and analyze the release you will need a frame rate of 500 fps or faster.
The average release is only 8 frames on a 500 fps camera.

Re: recommended video camera?
ok i guess i will go for the exilim highspeed camera. i know i have to invest to get a return. I know i can get a used one of these that works well and doesnt have a problem. but i know a new one is the way to go with warranty etc... i have had problems with digital audio recorders before and know how delicate these types of electronics can be.

Re: recommended video camera?
just a note to people, this is something I didnt know. The higher the FPS the more light you will need it seems. shooting at 1000fps the images are so dark i cant make them out in my home center.

Re: recommended video camera?
I have a Casio Ex-FC150, about as low as I can go indoors is 240 fps. Bur, 240 is 8 times faster than the average camera. And gives decent detail of the release.

Re: recommended video camera?
I can still get decent video at about 400 fps. I just didnt realize that lighting would be an issue, its kind of dark in my center, so i could have gotten a cheaper camera instead of splurging for the higher FPS
