How do you change from a verticle arm swing to a horizontal swing?

It has to do with how long the flat spot is at the bottom. More knee continuation will help increase that.

How does the left arm (right handed bowler) effect steepness of swing also spine tilt?

Steep swings can come from the knees not having enough bend DURING the approach. The flat spot being small is usually a bi-product of the legs (not always). The flat spot's length is determined by the length of the hinge and the amount of knee continuation.

Post a video and we can give you a more complete answer to YOUR game.

It's the length of the SLIDE and the amount of knee continuation.
