Jim Merrell's attention to detail ... Humor

Post by kajmk » August 31st, 2011, 1:05 am

From time to time Jim apologizes for his tendency to be thorough.
Typical scenario, Mo will write a pithy response to a question; later Jim will add his response which of course tends to be shall we say, a bit longer. In a manner of speaking Mo's response
is like the proverbial cogent design tersely expressed on a napkin. Later on Jim writes his on the tablecloth. :)

This often reminds me of a scene from the movie "The Fall of the Roman Empire."
Alec Guiness as Marcus Aurelius, James Mason as Timonedes.

Cutting to the chase -
Alec Guinness (Marcus Aurelius), James Mason (Timonides), Stephen Boyd (Livius)

Livius asks Timonides - How is Caesar?
Timonides replies - Well, in order to answer that question,
one must consider three aspects of the situation.
One, our emperor has been at the wars for 17 years
and lived under very difficult conditions.
Two, no one could ever describe Marcus Aurelius
as a robust man.

Marcus Aurelius has been listening all along unbeknownst to all.
He chimes in - There's a joke among the soldiers here about Timonides.
They say: Ask Timonides what day is it,
and he will lecture you on the history of the calendar.

:)

I continue to enjoy and benefit from your answers
It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so

There should be a rule of war saying you have to see someone up close and get to know 'em before it's ok to shoot 'em

Have you ever seen the T-shirt with the phrase "Help, I'm talking and i can't shut up!"?
I'm a charter member of that club.
I actually found a video clip from the movie a few years ago. Seeing the character development, the scenes, and the delivery add a lot.
