Humble request for some comments

Post by V-P »

Hello everyone!

I am new to this forum, but I see a lot of technical info.
I admire the good will that coaches have in this forum in "spending" time with newbies like me and giving out precious advices.

So to cut it short...
I have uploaded some videos so that the coaches may point me to some direction.
The camera angle is not the best but for this time this is what I could get.
I am pretty new to the game of bowling, less than 2 years.

Welcome Vini,
I see you've posted other video on youtube, good I'll use it too if you don't mind.

1) Re-position the ball closer to your chest and under you
head at address. (slide 1)
2) Hinge the ball forward only until the left elbow is close to the front of
your left hip.(slide 2).
3) In slide 4 your right knee needs to continue moving forward, because it doesn't you tend to stand up after release.
4) Work on maintaining the body position in slide 'G' until the ball hits the pins.
5) I recommend you give the Shift Bowl Technique a try.
http://wiki.bowlingchat.net/wiki/index. ... _Technique" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
6) Steps 2 & 3 need to be shorter and quicker.
7) Good game just needs some tweaking.

Post updated video after you practice the above suggestions (back & side please)

Video #2 is definitely your best shot. The shift/bowl technique will definitely improve your smoothness. Then, the shift, ball, quick, quick, slide (hold the follow thru 'til the ball hits the pins) cadence will help your rhythm. By the way, your right thigh will burn for a while while you learn this. That'll be an indicator that you're doing it right. Actually, a good basic game that these adjustments will make much better.

Humble request for some comments v.2

Hi Jim & Mo,

Thank you for your remarks !

Jim
That side view video which you analysed is old.
I mean it is from may but in my standards is old. I have changed and killed my game so many times. I don't want to, but it is stronger than me. When I read smth new, I want to adapt it to my game. And since in my country there are no coaches (not even pro shops), it takes me a lot of time end efforts to do smth wright. However yesterday I went to practice again and brought with me videos of side view and "knee continuation".
Here they go:
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Next time if I get to practice on the middle lanes I can get a video of other side too.

MO
I will try the shift-bowl technique.
Just one clarification:
I am talking about 4-step delivery.
The weight of the body (during stance) is resting on the non-sliding leg. Than you shift the weight on the sliding leg, than you step with the non sliding leg forward.
But before shifting the weight of the body to the sliding leg, do you move the sliding leg any bit forward ?
In other words, is it like:
Stance + move slide leg half step + shift weight + first step ?
or
Stance + shift weight + first step ?

Thanks in advance for loosing your time with me...

Hi Vini,
Do you work for Canon?
Yes, I knew the side video was an older video, but I thought it would make a good baseline comparasion to what I saw in the newer back video.

No coaches or pro shops! You've done extremely well on your own. What other sports have you played?

Your knee continuation is text book by the way!!!

Have you checked out the WIKI?
I edited the Knee continuation post to further clarify the Preset first step.
http://wiki.bowlingchat.net/wiki/index. ... _Technique" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Preset first step
After taking his stance Kelly moves the slide foot forward so that the left heel is now in line with the right toe.
The body weight is then shifted to the left foot and the approach begins.

When practicing the Shift Bowl Technique work on the pace and length of steps as well.
Slow, slow, quick, quick and slide.
Long, long, short, short and slide.

Please post side video after you have practiced this technique.

I see you are from Albania, perhaps Mo will be journeying your way sometime soon.

P.S. - the ball seems to come off your hand well, where did you get you equipment?

Keep up the excellent work,
Jim

Don't move your slide foot during the first step, just slowly shift your weight to the slide leg. You will end up with a four step/five count approach, the goal of "shift/bowl". Simple, but smooth and effective. I've never have anyone take more than five minutes to learn it. That's the beauty of it. It will take longer to master, but you'll have a good start in less than five minutes.

Humble request for some comments v.2 - Reply to Jim

Post by V-P »

Hi jim,

I am posting to the "Coaching Discussion" because I cannot reply to you to the previous one. I guess I should be a coach to do that. So instead of creating new posts maybe I can reply here.

So to answer your questions:

Do you work for Canon?
Yes, I work as Service guy for a company which is partner of Canon.

What other sports have you played?
Not much, really. Some swimming, snorkeling, fish hunting. :)

I see you are from Albania, perhaps Mo will be journeying your way sometime soon.
I would like to meet him "very much".

P.S. - the ball seems to come off your hand well, where did you get you equipment?
In Slovenia. There is the closest ball driller I can get to.
I was there this april, to partecipate in a tournament and so I drilled 3 balls.

Actually the ball you see on the video is bought as used one on ebay.
Now, before you start thinking how wrong this is, read below:
I could buy a new ball, but than who would drill it ?
So I had a choice: keep bowling with house balls or buy a used one.
So I saw some used balls on ebay for left handed bowlers and hoped it would fit my hand.
I was lucky. The span was 95% ok. :D Than, when I flied in Slovenia I re drilled it again.
I know the balls I have are over used, probably they don't have the best drilling angles to give the me best reaction, but still I enjoy them. I don't care about this at the moment. Right now I am focused only on my physical game.
Actually I am bowling limp-wristed to free my swing. Only a sec before release I slap the ball. The fact that I increase the speed of my hand just as the thumb is exiting, gives me all the revs I need, sometimes more than needed.

thnx for reading the long post...
Vini
