Looking for a coach on Long Island

Hello All,

As my subject says I'm looking for a coach to provide some lessons on Long Island, preferably the eastern end. I've been bowling leagues for three years and have averaged 175-180 through that time frame. I'd like to improve upon my game and I feel a few lessons may help me with that. Thanks in advance to anyone who may reply!

Look on bowl.com type in your zipcode, look for at least a bronze level coach.

Rob, if you find one you'd recommend, please add that coach to the forum Map so that others may benefit.
Thanks

Which is higher in expertise? A “Bronze” or a “Level 1?” (I simply don’t know)

Also: I note that SOME of the “coaches” listed, don’t provide contact info.. what good is THAT?! I would think that bowl.com would require that if you want to list your name, you’d have to provide a way to be reached?!

The levels are as follows:
Level 1
Bronze
Silver
Gold

With Gold being the highest.

Thank you.

Not for nothing, but just exactly how limited are the “level one” coaches? If all they do is basically give a person an introduction to bowling, then I would definitely not waste my time with a “level one” coach.

I’m at least at the point where I have a consistent approach, and I need corrections to pieces of that approach, so that I can pick up my pin average and be even MORE consistent.

Why don't you post videos on the Certified Coaching forum so Jim Merrell will give you some help? See the link below for how to do the recording. -- JohnP

Rob, just a few comments.

Just like engaging any new business relationship, ask for references.
If there are any sport leagues, ask some of the better bowler's if they know if or work with any local Coachs. Judge a bowler, not only by the average, but by how consistent they execute, e.g. watch how consistent their ball is at the arrow zone and breakpoint.
Most really good bowler's look graceful and smooth.
The better the coach, the more they will be able to build your game based on your own unique physiology.
Check with IBPSIA PSO's for references.
Certification does not guarantee anything in and of itself.
Many years ago, I certified as USBC Silver. I never coached, as I knew I was not ready to do so. Watch the ETBF video on the wiki, and listen to how they train coaches. The ETBF has an actual viable system of education and grooming.
I don't believe USBC is there yet.

By the way, Jim Merrell elected not to recertify a number of years ago.
He is however an elite coach, as you may have observed.

Most Coachs use video now.
No matter how good a person's eye is, video analysis is almost imperative.
The very best Coachs use video.
I also advise that if you are serious, you maintain your own video archive.

Whenever we find good resources such as pro shops, coaches, we should do them and the bowling community the service of spreading the news and add them to the forum map.
Updating the map is simple, any member can do it.

Good luck in your quest.

Let us know how things go.

My wife had shot a couple of videos of me bowling last time we were there; so I picked one of the coaches that actually posted an email, and sent him both short videos, to see if he’s interested in critiquing my sorry butt (lol)

Soupy, post the videos to YouTube and provide the links via a post in the Certified Coachs forum.
Jim Merrell can analyze for you. His advice is GOLDEN
