What basics to coach?

Post subject:  What basics to coach?

What would be the basics to coach a middle of the road bowler? Without getting to technical, which would come later. The stance, free arm swing, good foot work, timing, release?

I look at it this way: when we get a patient in the ER we first stop the hemorrhage and stabilize the patient, then we do some tests and treat the patient's symptoms in order of importance. As a coach I like to evaluate cause and effect, we video the athlete from different angles and then follow a checklist to learn about his or her biomechanical efficiency or lack of it(Slowinski). The untrained eye may see a chicken wing but in order to fix it we need to see what is causing it. Not having enough space for the swing slot is a common root among amateur bowlers that can branch out to an array of symptoms such as poor balance, accuracy issues or not having the most efficient release just to name a few... Every bowler is different and video analysis and a trained eye are key in taking the shortest route to improvement...

The basics for a middle of the road bowler; from behind I look for footwork and swing plane, and from the side timing (from the start to the release) and upper-body stability.

Ball fit is a must , free swing , balance and timing.
