Video camera suggestions for low light conditions at lanes?

Post by bowlaj »

Had a lesson years ago and the coach used external lighting on stands.
Lights not needed with newer cameras?

What to look for?

I know camera quality affects things like light swnsitivity and resolution, but, in addition to lighting, I have not found a camera that can show ball revolutions clearly all the way to the pins while being able to watch the entire approach from a rear view like on tv.

anyone know a cam with good shutter speed & resolution?
fow bowling of course.

Check into the Go Pro or Ion Cameras. I think they both have a camera that records in 120fps (Frames Per Second). I would think that should be enough.

Only problem with recording at 120 fps is the lighting will need to be increased. The faster the speed, the less time light has to get to the sensor. This is why you see a lot of super slow motion videos with a lot of dark around them.

Also you have to watch the cameras automatic light exposure. When it's facing towards the lanes which are usually pretty bright compared to the concourse. Will cause the bowler and ball to look dark & silhouetted at the approach unless the the concourse is brightly lit.

There are small led video lights now for less than $20 that can fit on a lot of video cameras that will help.

Googling...I see action cams...wow those are cool...and cheap!

But no LCD screen which I think would work better.

Definitely need to clearly record ball revolutions.

I think the see ball revolutions all the way down the lane, you need some form of focus "puller"

Expect to spend a pretty penny on a camera that does that.

I think I read where some cameras can lock on to a moving object. if a bowler posts well after a shot the ball would be sensed and focused on. I have to search again. I think it was a panasonic or a sony. not sure but it was an HDV cam.
