ball and layout advice(all needed info included)

Post by brunswickroller »

wanting some advice from Mo and others on ball choices and layouts, here is my story:

righty, speed dominant
18/18.5 mph
300ish revs
18* axis tilt
80* axis rotation

fairly modern house#1, 39' synthetic with screaming backends
horrible condition house#2, 46' wood with trashed guardian up front, slop backends, illegal blocked shot
decent condition house#3, 42' synthetic with medium backends, difficult modified THS

currently using:

Massive Damage
-30x4x50
-1"x3" hole 2.5" down VAL
-500 siaair

Alpha-Max
-25x4x65
-P3.75 1"x3"
-500 siaair

Karma Solid
-40x3.75x35
-.75"x2" hole 2.5" down VAL
-500/4000 siaair

the Massive is my benchmark piece without a doubt, and i love it, however I am having to play fairly straight with it, typically 10 at arrows out to around 6 breakpoint at house#1, doesn't move much at all house#2, play straight up 10 at house#3 with decent move but no error room at all

alpha-max is a big disappointment for me, it flares out the ass(6 inches) but never seems to move much at all for me, can see it starting up early but just flat

karma solid is the best look I have to be honest but it handles low volumes at best, I have tons of error room and recovery, the look is amazing(this is Kelly Tehunas layout and handiwork), typically use this as a transition piece, at 500 grit flat it can handle a bit more oil

my specs all add up to skid city and i struggle on everything but really modern houses that have super clean backends, most nights in house #2 i am just doa, can't get a ball to drive unless i hit the zero unit 1-5 outside boards, house #3 i have no error room whatsoever, splitting a board or she is gone

open to anything brunswick or morich, heading to Hitts in Newport ASAP

appreciate the help and advice, thanks

You need asymmetrical equipment.
You want a DestroyR, a Hell Raiser Revenge, and a Nexus Solid.

Others will be along to help with layouts. I would put you around 35/3.25/45 with a P3 hole as an asymm benchmark to start.

In the house with guardian you will probably need higher drill angle and longer pin to prevent it from hooking in your backswing and burning up.

More knowledgable people will be along soon with better advice, I am sure.

I'm not good at this stuff, but I CAN tell you the first thing the experts are going to say.

"Where/how is the speed measured?"
PAP- 4 1/8 over, 3/4 up
Speed - 17-18 monitor
Rev Rate - 475
Rotation - 65
Tilt - 12

Foul line. The footage I have puts him between 18.5mph and 19mph.

His feet have quickened and his back swing has got a little higher. Also, he's worked hard at removing a lot of muscle from his swing, freeing it up a bunch making it easier to generate speed. He's easily raised his ball speed 2.5mph-3mph. He's definitely speed dom, with high rotation and tilt.

and if im nearing 19mph then it think dropping to 14lb in a attempt to better my release might be a bad idea, most 14lb balls have higher rg's and lower diffs from what I have saw and my speed will be up as well, im skid city right now and like Kelly said this has happened after removing a large chunk of the muscle from my swing, what i need is revs :(

open to all suggestions on a new arsenal and needed layouts/surfaces, 3 ball: heavy oiler, benchmark and control for transition, the control piece would really like to be a karma pink

thanks

Being speed dominant, I'd be careful dropping to 14# unless there are injury issues.

He's been in discussions with Rick Hitt about purchasing an AM the next time we go up there. I think it will match his game well, having seen it used with success by my team mate last year. He too, was speed dom, with high axis rotation and the AM pushed him a little further left in to the oil and finished strong for him as long as he didn't pull on it and get in the flood. But, even then, he hit brooklyn enough that it didn't hurt him ;)

thanks Mo, the Kiwi man is good because that is exactly what he had me at on the Karma solid he punched up and consequently it always gives me the best look with most error room and recovery :D

I would say something like 35 / 4" / 50, with a hole down the VAL. See what Pappy has to say when you get up there to see him, but I would say something like that should do the trick :)

Yeah, I tend to just stay out the way, when I'm there though. It's hard to argue with 20+ years experience. Better to shut up and listen and hope I learn something while I'm there :)
