I have a customer who bought a 505C (weak asymmetrical) and wants a "length with control" layout. He asked if I could confirm this layout before drilling.
His specs are:
PAP - 5 1/8 right x 7/8 up
Speed - 19 (off hand)
Revs - 400
Tilt - 10°
Rotation - 65°
My thought for his sweet spot is 100°, +-30, with a ratio of 1:2 - 2:1.
For the layout I was thinking 60° x 5" x 40°. This should give a long, smooth arc, right?
Thanks.

Re: Layout for 505C
is that for little greg? no to hijack, but do you happen to have anymore 505c in 15? also, the ball is stronger than most think. just somthing to keep in mind. I drilled one that i wanted as a benchmark, 45x5x35 and its stronger than expected. Good luck!

Re: Layout for 505C
Indeed it is for Greg. I don't have any other 505Cs in stock, I actually had this one on closeout and gave him a just over cost price on it, I think that is the only reason he is buying it!
Thanks for the info about it being stronger than advertised. I've only seen one in use and it was at a demo, I don't know how the ball was drilled but the bowler was fairly high revs, matched speed, and he was swinging it quite a few boards on what we were told was a fairly fresh shot. The ball made it back to the pocket but wasn't too strong and was smoother than I had expected for a polished ball and this bowlers rev rate. I wish I had found out what the layout was they used, I'm hoping to get a similar type of roll out of it for for Greg.
Now you have me thinking maybe I should increase the drilling angle and VAL angle each by about 10°? Hmm...

I like: 70 / 4 1/2 / 50 for length and control. Drill it and throw it. Use the balance hole location to nail the reaction.
