Dual angle question

Post by xWillyStylex » February 24th, 2010, 11:52 pm

I was laying out some equiptment i just bought and noticed that all of the dual angle set ups i used ended up with the pin above the fingers. The only way i coulg get a pin down was with a large (70 degree) VAL angle, and a small drill angle(less than 40). My pap is 5 over and a 1/2 up. Am i doin something wrong?? The angle set ups didnt seem that outrageous. Here are some examples 35x4.5x30, 80x3x40, 55x3.75x25. This is the first time Ive tried the tecnique, so i really dont know what the final product looks like. thank you!!

You can use almost any drilling angle you want. You have to use a large angle to the VAL to get the pin below the fingers (usually 55* to 70* angle to the VAL).

35x4.5x30, 80x3x40, 55x3.75x25.
the mass bias should be in different places. on the drilling, the mb should be about 2 inches to the right of your thumb. in the second drilling the mb is probably slightly to the left of your thumb or in it. In the third drilling, your mb is probably slightly to the right of your thumb. in your second and third drilling the pin should be about 1 1/2 inches towards 1 oclock from your ring finger. In your first drilling the pin should be maybe 1 inch depending on your finger size. If that is what they look like, then you did it correctly as near as I can see.
this was done on a 4 inch span. for a 5 inch, change everything 1/2 and inch etc.

Thank you so much. I thought I might have been laying
these out wrong. This helped a lot.
