Dual Angle, and your individual sweet spot

Post by The Bean »

This thread is meant for others to learn from some of the mistakes I made.

As I mentioned in a previous thread, I had the privelage to attend Mo's Dual Angle seminar in Mn a couple years back. As soon as I got home, I started mapping out my current equipment to see how each ball was drilled. Most of the equipment I liked was drilled with sums about 100-120* totals (Pin to PAP distances were in the 3.5-4.5 range). My favorite ball an Apex Adrenaline was 60 x 60. With that, I started to map my own equipment out for my ball driller. After recently watching the videos on the morich bowling website, I noticed a couple of things, and then the light went off in my head. For all these years at my home house (which puts out a higher volume of oil) I struggled moving inside. Well thanks to my research on this site, and I decided to plug and redrill a ball for last night.

I started with a Hyroad that was drilled 45*x4x67* Ball read the lane at the proper distance, but always struggled to make the move as I moved in. Really? A ball drilled tame on the back end struggled to make the corner? So I plugged it and drilled it 45*x3.75"x30*. What a difference it made. At first there was too much polish on the ball, so I took my 4000 Abralon pad and gave it a quick once over by hand. After that, the ball came alive. I was able to move inside, and the ball had great recovery. I now have two other balls in the shop getting redrilled as we speak.

As I mentioned earlier, it was all my fault, and now I will be heading there to get my axis tilt measured, as well as speed and we will try and do axis rotation. At the very least, I know I am in the ball park.

Here are my specs as much as I know them.

Slightly speed dominant
17-18 mph estimate (speed at our center varies ALOT lane to lane)
Pap is 5" over and 3/8 up
13*-16* Axis tilt (will get it checked to make sure)
30*-45* axis rotation ( I can vary it depending on conditions)

Last time. Thanks for all the input on all the threads. It has been very eye opening for me. If nothing else comes from this thread, make sure you see a qualified driller and get ALL your specs. Then and only then can you make good decisions about ball fit!

Thanks Mo. I will do my best to attend your seminar at Elsies on the 25th of Feb.

You're going to be in Minneapolis on the 25th? I would love to demo some MoRich equipment, but a Thursday just won't work for me. Working durring the day and bowling at night. Perhaps next time...
