Hi. I went to Mo's last conference at Innovative back in 2019. He did a performance fit for me (which I really like) and passed out the list of his 9 recommended layouts. I have a high axis tilt (30*) and am finding that most of the layouts get me to the pocket, but carry poorly (lots of corner pins). I want to use the sweet spot/dual angle ratios in the Wiki, but I am a little confused in calculating the layouts. With my high axis tilt and being slightly speed dominant, I calculated my sweet spot at 80* and my ratio at 1:2. To figure out my layouts, would I calculate using 2:1 and then use the first number I get as the drilling angle? For example, that would give me a 40x60 control layout and a 20X40 for a totally strong layout?

80 total 1:2 Ratio 80/3=26.6 Drilling angle I would round to 25*, 80-25= 55* VAL angle, 25x55 Benchmark.
I always start with the Benchmark and work from there.
It is ok to Round and you are on the right track.

Totally Strong .......... 24-5.5-36 round to 25x35
Midlane ................. 17-5-43 round to 15x45
Benchmark ............. 26.6-5-53.4 round to 25x55
Long and Strong ....... 40-4.5-60
Control .................. 28.5-4.5-71.5 round to 30x70

I think you have it, almost, 40x60 is your long and Strong, 30x70 is your Control, 25x35 is Totally Strong

When I figure a Range for bowlers +/- .5 to the Benchmark ratio.
High Tilt Low Ratio 1:2 Benchmark Ratio
1:2 Ratio plus .5= 1:1.5 Ratio, Raise the Ratio for Long and Strong and Totally Strong.
1:2 Ratio minus .5 = 1:2.5 Ratio, Lower the Ratio for Midlane and Control

1:1 Ratio is like zero on a number line
minus move left, plus move right
low Ratio ............... - .....................0.......................+ ..........High Ratio

1:3 ...... 1:2.5 ....... 1:2 ..... 1:1.5 ..... 1:1 .... 1.5:1 ..... 2:1 ..... 2.5:1 ..... 3:1

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the reply. I must be doing something wrong with the math. Here's what I'm doing for a control layout, according to the Wiki:

"For a control layout, you would add the 20º and subtract the 0.5 ratio."

80*+20*= 100*
100*/1:2... subtract .5, so 100*/1:1.5
(1.5+1)=2.5
100*/2.5= 40*
40* drilling angle; 60* Val angle for the control drilling.

The 30x70 is what I get for the Long and Strong. I seem to be reversing things. Where is my mistake? For some reason, I cannot see it.

Wait... I see it. Because the ratio is 1:X, to raise it, I have to add .5 to a NEGATIVE, which would be subtracting from a POSITIVE. I finally remember my 8th grade math.
