I want a pin down ball. Best ball?

Post by Linknblue »

I want to drill up a pin down ball in my next ball. Basically the pin below my fingers. What type of ball works best with a pin down type drilling, asymmetric or symmetric? Or does it make any difference?

I would use an Asymmetric ball for your Pin down ideas.
This is because you can now control your drilling angle and get the core starting early enough to get the ball to actually roll.

Eric is 100% correct about choosing an asymm. A pin down is a higher VAL angle and since we can’t use balance holes now, in a symmetrical core the PSA is going to end up at or very near the thumbhole which depending on your PAP may end up creating too large of a drilling angle and the sum of the VAL and drilling angle may end up being to large.

I would like to add that we need more information. Your release specs are in your signature so we already have that. Why do you want a pin down ball? For what pattern, lane surface and transition?

I want a pin down ball for more control. To even out over under. I had a pin down ball in a Brunswick Rhino Teal long time ago and I really like the ball on house shots. I also had a Brunswick Sapphire Blue with the pin 1 1/2" from pap and below finger hole line. Both balls were my go to balls for a long time. I've been fiddle fluffing with all sorts of layouts over the years and can't really find a "goto" ball any longer.

40-5-70 on a decently strong Asymmetrical ball is a good layout for your Pin down idea.
