Made some changes, need layout tune-up

Post by dmsarch »

Hi all,

Ahhh... Been back to bowling for a while, here! Been lurking BC the whole time.

Made some changes to my game during the pandemic period, and am bowling lots of tournaments now on a variety of shots. I've been able to increase my revs and get a little more axis tilt by adopting a more 'modern' delivery with open shoulders, higher backswing and FINALLY getting to a point where I'm not pulling the ball down from said higher backswing, as well has having my hand on the inside of the ball from top of swing down to my ankle. HUGE improvement in rev rate. One of my scratch league teammates who hadn't seen me bowl since pre-covid was astonished at the revs and power I'd gained since he'd seen me last. That was fun to hear!!! Made lots of subtle grip changes along the way and have achieved much lighter grip pressure and getting hand under the ball much more effectively. Finally managed to maintain a 200 average in one of my leagues this summer. :D

So anyway, here's my new numbers:

16 MPH off the hand (can get this down to about 14.5 without sacrifice, if needed).
275 to 300 RPM revs (getting the higher revs more and more often with quality deliveries).
Axis rotation: 45* 'standard', can vary down to 20* and maybe up to 80* depending on what I'm trying to achieve.
Axis tilt: 13*. This is another major change (I used have less than 10* tilt) Increased tilt has been awesome!
PAP: 4 3/4" over, 1 1/4" up.

Balls I've liked lately:
Venom Recoil at P1500, 40*x4"x35*. This ball has been great at my 'slicker' house's THS.
Venom Shock at P3000, 4"x40*. This ball has been good at my higher-friction house; place is tough!!

Would like to get a fresh list of layouts for the usual slots in a bag and for symm / assym equipment.

Advice would be greatly appreciated!

One last detail.... The balls I listed that I like lately... Those layout numbers are based on my OLD PAP... which was 5 1/8" over and 3/4" up.

Thanks!

Just a touch Rev dominant. I would Benchmark you at 100* Total and 1.8:1 Ratio

Asymmetrical Layouts
Totally Strong ............ 55-5-25
Midlane .................... 45-4.5-35
Benchmark ................ 65-4-35
Long and Strong .......... 85-4-35
Control ..................... 65-3.5-55
low flare ................... 85-2.25-35

Symmetrical Layouts
Benchmark ................ xx-4-30
Control ..................... xx-4.5-50 Adjust to Pin in Ring finger
low flare ................... xx-5.25-30

Eric,

Thanks so much!! Getting the hang of figuring it out myself - these are very close to what I was expecting.

Appreciate all the help - It's made my game feel great the last couple years!
