Hello. I have a Track 505A which I am attempting to replace with something close. Found a Track Kinetic Amethyst. The 505A has a 4-5" pin and is laid out 55 x 4.25 x 29. The pin is squarely above the fingers. This ball is definitely angular, allows me to move right (I am LH) into the oil when my benchmark line quits working for me. I like the Amethyst, the problem is it has a 2-2.5 pin. I'm not sure this will work for me, that is, allow me to get the ball motion I'm looking for. Tell me I'm wrong (and a suggested layout would be appreciated).
Thanks in advance,
Viper/Joe

Re: Question on Ball Specs
Do not worry about the Pin to Cg distance. Cg location really doesn't matter.
It used to matter when we could use balance holes.
With the new rules you can have a 3 oz. imbalance before it will be out of spec. So basically you can drill it almost any way and it will be legal.
Drill the Amethyst 70-4-25 and it will be really close barring any coverstock strength difference. Which I am thinking you can find a surface prep that will make it negligible.

The difference in the layouts is because the Amethyst differential rating is lower, less flare potential.
Using the same exact layout would make the Amethyst react further down the lane and less responsive to friction. Longer hook zone.
The 70* drilling angle is basically your thumb hole. With only a .005 Int. diff. it will act just like a symmetrical ball and the PSA will be in the thumb.
Maximize the flare by drilling the thumb hole to 4 1/2" maximum depth.

Re: Question on Ball Specs
Eric, appreciate your explanation and recommendation for a layout. Regarding the thumb hole depth, I use a Turbo SG. I believe that depth is approx 3 1/2. So less flare then? Or is there a tweak to the layout? Or a work around (such as drilling a "pilot" hole of a smaller diameter than the Turbo bit down to 4.5 inches, if legal to do so)? Thanks. Viper/Joe

Re: Question on Ball Specs
I would start with the pilot hole (actual thumb size) at the max depth then drill the 1 1/2" sleeve hole to proper installation depth.

Re: Question on Ball Specs
Eric, perfect! Can you tell me where the pin will end up being relative to my finger holes? Sorry, but I can never visualize a layout. Again, thanks for the help, very much appreciated.

Re: Question on Ball Specs
Eric, thank you! Ball purchased. To be drilled this week some time. On the lanes the following week, maybe next Sunday with any luck. I'll let you know how it works. Viper/Joe
