Higher VAL vs. early hook?

I'm bowling in a house this year where the transition just sucks. Heads/mids go and the ball just stands up too quick. Can't tell you how many times I've seen/bowled 250-260 then struggle to shoot 210 the next game. Carry just dies in an instant. It's a heavier volume house pattern (25-26 mL, 41'), doesn't matter, the surface in that place is horrible.

I think I've done pretty much all I can do physically (speed, angle, tilt, rotation) and with surface, so, I'm going to try a different layout.

For the first half of the year, I've been using medium VAL angles (40-50). It's the same thing on a consistent basis. Big first game, then I get to practice shooting corners for the next 15-20 frames.

So, since the ball is checking up, would a higher VAL help fight the hook/set look I'm getting? I'm talking a VAL of 70+. Something smoother off the spot, but maybe doesn't slam on the brakes and change direction about 2 feet too quick.

Dont grab it?
Throw the ball cleaner off your hand.

I don't think a Larger VAL Angle by itself is going to be what you are looking for. If you are convinced a layout will help than I would suggest an Asymmetrical low flare.
The problem being the lane topography is taking over once the fresh oil is depleted. The friction and gravitational effects are burning tilt, rotation and speed from your ball. Like MegaMav said your release needs to help compensate for this.

Have to agree with Eric regarding the low flare layout. I recall that I suggested that a while back. Have you given it a try yet?
