Nano Layout Advice

Post by pneumatic »

Hello everyone,

I just got my Virtual Gravity Nano yesterday and I am looking forward to trying a dual angle layout for the first time. It is 15lbs with a 3 inch pin and 3.0 top weight. I am looking for this to replace my strongest ball in my arsenal, yet be able to play to torunamnet shots and I plan on bringing it with me to Nationals.

Here are my stats:

Right Handed
Pap - 5" over, 3/4" up
Speed - 16 mph
Rev Rate - 250 rpm
Axis tilt - 5 to 8 degrees
Axis Rotation - 65 degrees
Lane Surface - I bowl on synthetics most of the time

Thanks in advance for all the help.

I got you as matched, with low tilt and medium-high rotation. That gives you 105°±20°, with ratios of 2.25:1-1.25:1 and pins of 2"-4", 3"-5" sym.

Since you want it for the sloppy stuff, I would say 50° / 3.25" / 35° should do you JUST fine. Play with the surface until you get the look you want, then decide on a weight hole placement to fine tune it.

Made a minor adjustment. It's in white above. Good work!!! I'd use a P3 hole, probably.

I used the wiki to calculate it so that would be off the hand, correct?

I'm curious, was your cg way out of line to the left of the pin to MB line? I got two in yesterday, and both were WAY out of line left, probably 2", and had 3 1/2 & 4 oz of top weight. It wasn't a problem, I was able to get a good layout and both customers were very well satisfied. I'm just curious if this is somehow a function of the core in the ball. By the way, the Nano is a very strong ball. -- JohnP

It is funny that you mention that because as I was laying it out with Mo's reccomendation I noticed that the cg was high and didn't think that the P3 hole would work because of this. I have not punched it out yet but here is a picture (sorry for the bad quality)

Where exactly will the thumb and finger holes land up? I can see the center of grip, but if you could draw the thumb and finger holes that would help. Then, we can go from there:)
Stats:
Right handed
Pap is 4 3/4 x 3/8 up currently
Speed around 16.5 off hand
Tilt in the 14-16* range
Rev rate: around 325 - 350 or so
Axis rotation in the 25-70* range
I bowl on Brunswick synthetics. Ths...

Just drill the fingers deep. Drill the MF 4" deep and the RF 3 1/2" deep. Should be able to do it now. Start small (2 1/2" deep) and increase the size until you have 7/8 oz. of finger weight. That will work. I know where the fingers and thumb go.

I did consider drilling the fingers deep, but I just wanted to see your suggestion first. Mo, is the reason you are suggesting a P3 hole to help to ball push a little bit being that the cover is so strong? (still trying to learn this stuff)

I worked with the ball a lot yesterday. I does hook, not as much as a DestroyR so far in my experience. A little smoother transition than the DestroyR. P3 will firm up the break point read. I still believe I gave you the right layout.

While I was trying to be creative, I see that Mo has already commented on this, so really nothing much more to say. The P3 might not be as low as you think it is with the new update on the Gradient Line System. Drill the fingers deep, and mark the new P3 hole and you should be able to get it there.

BTW, is that the only Nano he has? If not, I would try to trade one for a longer pin or lower top weight to make it easier to achieve the drilling suggested.

MeNo, yes this is currently the only Nano I have. I thought I saw a thread showing this new gradient line system but could not remember where it was. Thanks for the picture, I will locate the P3 according to this new scale.
