layout help

Post by eschoett »

I'm looking for a layout advice for a new RipR to use at the Nationals. The pattern has been heavy oil 40' for the past few years and on Bruswick synthetics. I don't expect it to change much.

Revs 300 rpm
Speed 18 mph at line
Rotation 70
Tilt 30

I'm used to bowling on AMF HPL lane which seem to have much more friction than the Bruswick lanes on the backend. When I have bowled at the nationals the past few years, I seem to stuggle to get the ball to turn the corner and get into a roll.

Thanks for the advice

I make you speed dominant, with high rotation and tilt. That gives you a total of 75°±15°, with ratios of 1:1-1:2, and pins of 2.5"-4" sym, 4"-5.5" asym.

That gives you benchmarks of:
  • 30° / 4.5" / 45° asym
  • 35° / 3.25" / 40° sym
Now, to handle your problem request for Nationals. I would say you need low totals, low ratio, strong pins. That leads me to 20° / 5" / 40°. I would start at 1000 surface and consider a LARGE P3 or P4 hole.

I would also consider a Double Thumb layout for you. Again, plenty surface, biggest weight hole possible.
Father, Husband, Bowler, Web developer

15lb Morich DestroyR, Mania, Perpetual Motion, Craze, Frenzy, Mojave
15lb Radical Yeti
15lb Brunswick Slingshot, Avalanche Urethane

Highest series: 818

I asked Mo about the double thumb for a high tilt:

Don't "double thumb" it with your tilt. I adjusted the pin to PAP distance.
