Heavy Volume struggles

Post by fufu »

I recently got back from the USBC Open Championships. The D/S pattern played tight and slick. My Halo, 60x4.5x30, at 1000 just wouldn’t get up to flush. My Idol, Xx4.5x65, at 500 wasn’t much better. This is the second time is 3 months I’ve run into problems where I was completely in jail.

The simple answer here is to sanded the Halo to 500 or even 360. However with 6 mins of practice and simply trying to get loose I didn’t have time. I knew they would play tight but I guess I wasn’t prepared for how tight.

I managed a sorry a$$ 560 in doubles, moved a bit left and slowed my ball speed down a couple mph and shot 670. I’m capable of that but I’m exploring alternate layouts and/surfaces to see what I might be able to do on the equipment side of the house to help me a bit.

I have a couple of ideas.

One is 25x4.5x55...I’ve had some success on sport conditions with this layout.

I’ll listen to any advice.

Work on playing softer.
It allows you to play parts of the lane others cant.
Throwing equipment at a flaw isnt the answer.

Obviously I can do that. As I said I’m “exploring” different layout ideas.

Sweetspot 105* total 1.25:1 Ratio

Asymmetrical layouts
Totally Strong ........... 55-4.5-30
Midlane .................... 35-4.5-50
Benchmark ............... 60-4-45
Long and Strong ........ 80-4-45
Control...................... 60-4-65
low flare ................... 80-2.25-45

From a previous post/reply.

Tilt: 17*
AR: 55

However I think my ball speed has gone up since I changed my fit and gotten some health problems sorted out.

What do you do before practice to warmup? That might be something to look at. For sport shots lower totals might be better to give more room for surface adjustment.

Speed kills on heavier/flatter patterns.
