Layout advice needed

Post by mosome300 »

Just bowled on a house condition and struggled to shoot 600 for three games. Felt like i was using a urethane ball. Ball rolled through fronts and heads like i would expect but did funny things in backend. Felt like stripper wasnt working proper. Give u some stats. Im LH with pap around 3 15/16 track circumference 12 inches and medium to high axis rotation. Ball speed off hand approx 18 mph. Bowled on old wood lanes pattern length 41 oil amount medium but very heavy in center. Heavy carrydown. Missed three shots in and ball missed head pin to the left. Used an IQ nano drilled pin in ring finger which is 4" pin and 40 val angle. Sand at 500 abralon . This ball gave me most consistency. And plugged away to get to 600. Other balls in bag iq tour pin 3 1/2 val angle 15 lane shined grit. This ball i used for 3 frames. Huge over under w this ball. Had to put back in bag. Need something in my bag to handle the heavy carrydown that i encountered. I think i would be slightly less than a biscuit spinner. But close. I would described my style as parker bohn but with more spin at release. I have every storm ball available to drill. So would only want advice from there line. Its late at night so any missing info let me know.

Low tilt high rotation bowler? What about speed to revs?

I need accurate release specs to be able to help you.

Rev rate around 300 to 350. Maybe slightly speed dominant. But close match.

Let me simplify. Looking for recommended layout for THS with heavy carrydown on old wood lanes. My stats are as follows:
LH
PAP 3 15/16 1/8 up
Rev rate 300 to 350
Ball speed 18mph off hand
Axis tilt 10 degrees
Axis rotation 60 degrees

I always start by figuring the Asymmetrical Benchmark and work from there.

Sweetspot 95* 1.5:1 Ratio
Asymmetrical Benchmark 60-3.5-35

I have 2 different ways to try to combat carrydown.
1. Play around it
Use a layout that will give you alot of hook/continuation ..... Asymmetrical 55-3-50

2. Play through it
Use a strong early rolling layout, sport type layout ............. Asymmetrical 30-5-60 (pin in middle finger)

Im going to drill a code x with the around it layout tomorrow. I dont have anything asym w a 3in pin to pap so it would be different than anything in my bag. Just out of curiousity what would be a symetrical benchmark? It will be a few weeks before i bowl in that house but i will let you know how it goes.

Eric. Thank you. Im going on vacation but so far this is what i ve done. Drilled soniq w benchmark layout its great shot 267 first game using it(4to1 ratio pattern). It compliments my snap lock drilled 45 4 40. Exactly what i was looking for when lanes breakdown and snap lock starts going forward into pocket to soon and moving in produces single pin leaves. Drilled code x w through it layout instead of around it layout. Have not thrown it yet. Thinking of drilling drive ** 2.25 40 for around it on sym. What do you think?? Also would like a total strong layout for sure lock. Thank you again. Keep up the good work.

Short pin Symmetrical layouts are forward rolling, not for swinging the lane. I wouldn't recommend it.

Sure lock Strong layout, Hmmmmm How Strong?
Sport ........................... 30-5-45
Totally Strong ................ 50-4.5-25
Midlane ......................... 40-4-35
Benchmark .................... 60-3.5-35
