I culd use some suggestions for layouts for shorter (< 38') sport patterns.

Sport patterns have much less front to back taper and because of my ball roll (375-400 RPM, 70 degrees axis rotation, and 11 degree tilt) I have a hard time blending out the ball reaction.

I'm considering trying a low drill angle (20-30 degrees) and a higher VAL (60+) to control the shape out of the pattern. Also, I'm LH, so I rarely get to see the pattern transition and smooth out.

Thoughts?

Whats your speed on the monitor?

17.5-18 MPH. I can vary from 16 to 19 (I'm not good at slowing it down, but I can pull it off)

Currently, I've tried bigger sums (130+) on these shots. For example, I've got a Mission Unknown at 500 with a 70 X 4 X 70. It's smooth on most conditions, but on shots with little/no taper, it goes sideways unless I go dead up the back of it.

Consider:

Tremendous: 40 x 3.5 x 55 for a nice smooth look.

I have the tremendous and quite like the ball motion but that thing lane shines in a hurry when sanded from my experience. I often see a rather drastic change in ball reaction 4-5 frames in when it is freshly sanded so I haven't been able to properly use it how I envisioned it.

I really liked the Guru master for a nice smooth look when I was throwing 16 but after I dropped in weight again the Daredevil trick has been awesome in controlling the pocket.
