Help build a tournament/sports shot arsenal/layout

Post by BigRedTX »

Good morning all,

Thank you in advance. I’m looking to build a tournament/sports shot arsenal/layout.

Here are my specs:
Right Handed
PAP 4 3/8 and 3/8 up
40* rotation
18* Tilt
380 rev rate
19.5 MPH off the hand

I have the following balls undrilled. I’m not sure on pin placement at this time but can update later if need.
900 Global:
X
X2
Dream on (new)
Boost cardinal Red

Storm:
IQ tour (blue)

Is there a ball I should add or take away from this list?

Thank you again,

Brandon

Welcome to BowlingChat

Listing the layouts in Dual Angles with the pin to PAP measurements would really help evaluate your existing arsenal.
Balance holes location size and depth along with surface preps would also help.

Surface prep is a major factor in matching up to Sport and Tournament conditions. Figuring out what grit to make the surface takes a bit of trial and error to find the right ones that match ujp to your release, ball and lane condition. This is why many bowlers will keep sanding pads in their bag to make quick adjustments during practice.

I missed the fact you listed all un-drilled balls. I always start with the Benchmark and work from there.
I also like to show the Basic arsenals as a starting point for an arsenal.
Sweetspot, 90* Total, 1:1 Ratio

Asymmetrical layouts
Totally Strong ............... 45-4.5-25
Midlane ........................ 25-4.5-45
Benchmark ................... 45-4-45
Long and Strong ........... 65-4-45
Control ........................ 45-4-65
low flare ...................... 65-2.25-45

Symmetrical layouts
Totally Strong ............... Double Thumb
Benchmark ................... 50-4-40 balance hole 1.5" below midline on the VAL
Long and Strong ........... 70-4-40
Control ........................ 50-4-60 balance hole 1.5" below midline on the VAL
low flare ...................... 65-5-45

By the numbers the Pin Location is very close to your ring finger for many of the layouts I have listed.
Adjustment will definitely need to be made.

Sport layouts are forward rolling layouts and usually done with Asymmetrical balls.
You list only one Asym. This is not a deal breaker for your arsenal but it does make it difficult to give you exactly what you are looking for.
Pin to Cg and top weights for your equipment will help me set them up with Sport/tournament conditions in mind.

With the balls you have right now I would lay them out something like this ...

Dream On .................. Long Sport ................... 30-5-40
X2 ............................ Benchmark ................... 50-4-40 P3
Boost cardinal Red ...... Long and Strong ........... 70-4-40
X ............................. Control ......................... 60-4-70 balance hole 1.5" below midline on the VAL
IQ ............................ low flare ...................... 65-4.5-35

Thank you Eric.
Im working on getting the rest of my balls with there dual angles, hoping to get them posted later today.

The reason I have selected this list of balls is Im trying not have all strong covers balls in my bag. Im I thinking about this wrong?

Here is a list of what i have right now:
2x Inspection DCT (drilled different and covers are also different)
Truth pearl
Honey Badger
Jackal ghost

I think it is a good idea to have a varied collection of coverstrengths. Many sport and tournament conditions are not heavy oil. Also, there is no sense in destroying the condition with an oil sucking super cover when there is not much oil to start with. They do have their place on fresh conditions until you get enough breakdown on flatter patterns for the weaker covers. In my expeerience there are more frames bowled on broken conditions than fresh.
