Mo’s low flare sport layout advice

I am going to have a ruckus feud done with mo’s low flare layout (90x2.25x40) as a fresh sport and flat pattern ball. I read and found as much as I can on it, and understand it’s intent is to provide a controllable reaction and stay with the ball longer in blocks.

My question is this: as this is a relatively new layout direction for me, I am really unsure of the preferred ball down from there. What is the typical preferred or recommended ball down options and layouts?

Not a fan, especially with your specs.

Speed: 18.5 at the line
Rev Rate: 375
Axis Rotation: 60
Axis Tilt: 15

I'd be inclined to go with something like 70 x 3.25 x 70 if you want a smooth look with your specs.

I think 2.25" Pin to PAP is going to retain your tilt for too long and not read the pattern correctly.
Speed is a little fast for that rev rate to consider this layout. Unlikely it will hit the roll phase unless the lane surface is worn and/or the pattern is short.

Hitting power comes from the roll phase where rev rate is highest. I think you're going to have a hard time with 90 x 2.25 x 40.
Just for clarification, the recommended layout for control from Mo & Radical is 90 x 2.25 x 50.

Thanks for the thoughts Mav. My specs are from video using the Wiki here. I’ll do some more video work to confirm, but it should be very close.

Assuming I go with your layout recommendation, I know I need other shapes in my bag as well.

I am most familiar with Brunswick, DV8 and Radical branded balls.
It would be my pleasure to help you with anything you need.

Play 11/22/2017, though you guys might enjoy this interview, in part of it Mo discusses having two of the same "big" balls, one with your regular layout and one with a low flare layout to move a few boards outside of where you were after the first ball started being too much...

Interesting to say the least. I happen to have another Ruckus Feud drilled strong as well. I don't have the layout specs on it, I need to get into the PSO and do a full work up on all my stuff really...

Yeah Mav, I think I fat-fingered that layout. Meant 50, must've missed....

So the 15 deg tilt came from a video analysis from a video in 2016. I have since made a few tweaks, including being able to vary the tilt a bit, as well as rotation.

I can comfortably get the tilt down to about 7-9 degrees. This seems to be my comfort zone, but I can go up to the 15 degrees as needed to add length.

This is only my own assessment, I will be getting with the PSO (Silver level) week after Christmas for the full arsenal workup, and I want him to get me some more solid numbers too.

Can someone help me with the tilt/rotation overlay on this one? It is a shot of my normal release, but I am getting 60 rotation and almost 20 tilt?!?!

Is that right?

That doesnt look like its down the shot line, unless you're shooting a 7 pin.

Using the overlay I'd say approx. 24° tilt, 59° rotation

Thanks 1820!

I think I have to work on that tilt. I suspect it's the reason I struggle at times on sport conditions.

Spoke with my PSO, ended up going with 90x2.5x50 on the ruckus feud, leaving another feud long and strong as the ball down option. Unfortunately, the next ball down is an older but still very good Resurgence, which struggles turning the corner on sport conditions. Weights only give me about 1/4 oz to work with, not enough to make a difference, so that is now relegated to sale to make room.

Now that leaves a serious gap in the sport arsenal, from a long and strong feud to an uproar. I have an undrilled Fortera Exile 3.1 TW, 4-6 pin. We think that it will fill the gap nicely, getting length through the heads, but the asym core/cover still turning the corner easily.

I’ll be picking up the feud next week, and get some time on a fresh sport. Very interested to see what it does.
