Finally got the opportunity to spin my equipment up on a DeTerminator.
Interesting results. What I would have expected to be of the slower ones by design in my set is actually the 2nd fastest. I have been disappointed with the Vibe being way stronger than I expected.
A little bit of background. All are 13 pound balls.
The Nail, Blue Hammer and Jigsaw all have the same core. 2.53 Rg, .055 Diff.
The Vibe and the Viral have the same core. 2.56 Rg, .030 Diff.
The Nail and Jigsaw were initially drilled the same. edit

Mass Bias(PSA) yes, Pin (low Rg Axis) not exactly. It will be located 6-3/4" from the PSA.
My Ti Messenger the PSA is located in the middle of the grip. It is anybody's guess where the "pin" is located.

Hi, Eric, I also have access to a DeTerminator. And, like you, I got some results I did not expect. When I get a new ball, the first thing I do is spin it up on a DeTerminator to get the blank ball reading (design characteristics). I have scoured this blog and other sites looking for information about how to get the most use from the DeTerminator. And, I hope replies to your post will give me additional knowledge.
So far, once the ball is drilled, I spin it to get a drilled spin time and compare it to the blank spin time. I have had some balls spin higher after drilling and others spin lower. For example, my Xeno is drilled 75 x 3 x 25, had a blank spin time of 4.9 secs, and a drilled spin time of 6.2 sec (benchmark).
I use the spin time to determine how fast the ball will transition from hook to roll. The lower the spin time the faster the ball will respond to friction and transition to the roll phase - you can determine the hook shape without actually throwing the ball.
What would be a really good spin time and what would not be a good spin time? I really do not know, but some suggestions are:
7 to 10 secs = avg. spin time; <7 secs = fast transitioning ball; >10 secs = slow transitioning ball, or
6 to 8 secs = benchmark; <5.5 secs = fast transitioning ball; >9 secs = slow transitioning ball.
I have settled on: fast transitioning is <6; benchmark is 6 to 9; slow transitioning is >9
Interestingly, none of my equipment has a spin time >9 secs.
One use for me is if you've got a low spin time on a drilled ball, and it won't turn the corner, you've
likely got a coverstock problem - more surface may be needed; or it's possibly oil soaked (I have got some real oil sponges).
