Comfirm Layout Calculations

Post by pawpax »

Recently updated my specs and am working on a spreadsheet for my base layouts (benchmark, control, long/strong, midlane, totally strong, low flare) for both asymmetrical and symmetrical.

Speed: 16.5 mph
Rev Rate: 275 rpm
Axis Tilt: 10*
Axis Rotation: 55*
PAP: 4 11/16" right X 1/2" up

I am using a sweet spot of 100* and a 2:1 ratio and resulted with the following:

Asymmetrical
Benchmark: 65* Drill 35* VAL
Control: 80* Drill 40* VAL
Long/Strong: 85* Drill 35* VAL
Midlane: 50* Drill 30* VAL
Total Strong: 60* Drill 20* VAL

Symmetrical
Benchmark: 70* Drill 30* VAL
Control: 85* Drill 35* VAL
Long/Strong: 90* Drill 30* VAL
Midlane: 55* Drill 25* VAL
Total Strong: 60-65* Drill 15-20* VAL

Based on tilt, planning on pin to PAP <3" on asymmetrical and >4" on symmetrical.

Am I in the right starting place? Also, how is low flare calculated?

I appreciate the help.

I would have started at 105* for your totals the 2:1 Ratio is right on.

Asymmetrical
Benchmark: 65* Drill 35* VAL
................... 70-3.5-35
Control: 80* Drill 40* VAL
................... 75-3-50
Long/Strong: 85* Drill 35* VAL
................... 90-3.5-35
Midlane: 50* Drill 30* VAL
................... 50-4-35
Total Strong: 60* Drill 20* VAL
................... 60-4-25
low flare ...........90-2.25-35

Symmetrical
Benchmark: 70* Drill 30* VAL
................... 70-4.25-30
Control: 85* Drill 35* VAL
................... 80-4.25-50 pin in the ring finger
Long/Strong: 90* Drill 30* VAL
................... 80-4-30 Motion Hole
Midlane: 55* Drill 25* VAL
................... 50-4-30 balance hole 1.5" below the midline on the VAL
Total Strong: 60-65* Drill 15-20* VAL
................... Double Thumb
low flare ............. 70-5-35

Based on tilt, planning on pin to PAP <3" on asymmetrical and >4" on symmetrical.

Am I in the right starting place? Also, how is low flare calculated?
I use the Long and Strong Ratio and Total and use the low flare pin to PAP position 2.25" for Asym and 5" for the Symmetrical.

I appreciate the help.
You are in the right place your arsenal came out close to what I figured.
In color above is what I figured for your layouts for you to compare.

Right Handed
PAP 4.75" up 1/2"
45* rotation
12* tilt

Thanks so much for the reply. I've read many different posts regarding starting sweet spot and have seen anywhere from 90* to 110* totals for matched up bowlers. So I went right in the middle.

It's good to know that I am on the right path.

Now onto rebuilding an arsenal.

How was your ball speed measured?
I should have asked this at the beginning?

You start at 95* total for Matched speed to revs or adjust down for for speed dominance, adjust up for rev dominance. Then you adjust again for Tilt and Rotation.

For a better understanding check out the BowlingChat University Image Button located at the top of the page.

Ball speed was measured off the hand using Bowler ID.

Bowler ID is an average speed, not off the hand.

This starts your calculations out as speed dominant then the low tilt raises the totals so your sweetspot of 100 is actually closer than my first attempt. I now have you at 95* Totals, 1.75:1 Ratio

Asymmetrical
Totally Strong ............ 50-4-25
Midlane .................... 40-4-35
Benchmark ............... 60-3.5-35
Long and Strong ....... 80-3.5-35
Control .................... 60-3.25-55
low flare .................. 80-2.25-35

Symmetrical
Totally Strong ............ Double Thumb
Midlane .................... 45-4-30 balance hole 1.5" below the midline on the VAL
Benchmark ............... 65-4-30
Long and Strong ....... pin above the ring finger Motion Hole
Control .................... 65-4.25-50 pin in the ring finger balance hole 2" below the midline on the VAL
low flare .................. 70-5-35
