I am looking for layout advice for the Quick Fix and Tremendous.

One ball motion that I am looking for is a little bit earlier, stronger in the mid lane, with good continuation. I have a Mastermind Strategy drilled 37 x 5.25" x 63 that worked good at the PBA Roth / Holman Doubles, looking for something a little earlier and stronger than that, but a similar motion. Basically, something for flatter, medium-heavy, sport type of shots. I was thinking the Tremendous would be good here.

Also, I am looking for a benchmark type of solid cover ball, thinking the Quick Fix will fit this bill well. A layout that will cover a few different types of lane conditions, more on the medium to medium-heavy side from what I see on the left side of the lane most of the time. Something that didn't respond too quickly but rolls very heavy through the pins.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Other balls I am keeping in my arsenal (for now), for comparison:

Quantum (Forest Green): 50 x 5" x 35
Quantum (Fire Pearl): 33 x 5.25" x 67, x-hole 3/4' x 2" deep, 2" down VAL
Fanatic SS: 5.5" x 30 (Double thumb)
Xeno Pearl: 50 x 3.75" x 40

I'm not one of the experienced experts on layouts here, so EricHartwell may have a different answer for you but here's what I've got for you...

Benchmark total sum of 95 with 1.5:1 ratio...giving you a benchmark around 55x3.375x40.

You have a few balls drilled close to that, but in my opinion you are using too high of pin-pap lengths, those 5+ inch pin-pap's are for getting the ball to roll forward sooner, lowering that will give you something that can handle more angle.

I personally would recommend the Cash over the Tremendous for an earlier/stronger ball, but the Tremendous may work out ok.

Tremendous- maybe an adjusted midlane layout- 30x4x55

For the Lefties a reduction in totals and a reduced ratio is used because of the lack of track wear and lane play on their side. So, I come up with 90 total 1.25:1 ratio 50-4-40.

Symmetrical Benchmark ... Quick Fix ..... 55-4-35 balance hole 1.5" below the midline on the VAL

Tremendous .... 30-4.5-50 pin in the ring finger

I figured that would be a correction you made, wasn't sure how much to adjust for him being lefty.

Maine Man- How does your Xeno pearl react for you? Same question about your green quantum...with the strength and how early I've heard that ball is I'd think that it may be pretty condition specific for you maybe and not have the best pin carry...could be wrong of course since you are a lefty.

bfweld,

I love the Xeno Pearl, great ball in places that have weaker back ends. I used it a lot in one center that I struggled with pin carry for a while, drilled the Xeno Pearl and averaged 245 over the last eight weeks with it. Very defined move off the spot, but still controllable. As far as the Forest Green Quantum, I took the surface up to 3000 and had a lot of success with it on medium volume and length sport shots, along with one center on Thursday nights that is usually flooded. When I need just a touch more length with pop, I go to the Fanatic SS, they are a good 1-2 combo. Like I said, left side, less transition, so I can stay in those types of balls longer than the righties can, for the most part.

Also, I only listed the balls I was keeping in the arsenal going forward, as I am replacing some that were in there, so I did have other balls with pins in the 4-4.5" range, just not listed as I am updating the arsenal over the summer. Thanks for the suggestions so far everyone!

I figured the Xeno pearl would have a good reaction for you, wanted to ask to be sure. The fact that the forest green quantum works well for you just shows the difference from right to left side. I've only heard and seen righties with it and have only heard how strong and early it is.

Do you have an original Fix? If so what layout and how has it reacted for you...

Have you seen much of the Tremendous so far? I've only seen and heard that it is a bit longer and quicker reaction to friction then the original Guru, and on paper is pretty close to the Mastermind Strategy...so I'm just wondering if it will be as early as you want, that's why I suggested the cash...the pitbull would be even earlier. Of course it doesn't matter much if you already have the tremendous, unless you are willing to place it somewhere else in your arsenal.

I've seen you bowl.

Tremendous: 45 x 5 x 45 (Start with this on most patterns, 36 - 44ft, adjust surface as necessary)
Quick Fix: Asym B (Once you open them up, switch to this)

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, both balls came in today, will lay them out and hopefully get some video in this weekend.
