I am going to start experimenting myself and will report back, at least so far I know that for a lightbulb core with a medium solid cover, pin in the RF with the balance hole 6 3/4" at 55* produces an arcing reaction that I can comfortably play inside from 15 to say 23 at the arrows to 10-8 at the end of the pattern on a THS.

For experimentation I will increase the balance hole from 3/4" x 3" to 15/16" same depth and report what I see, afterwards I will plug it and drill it around where a thumbhole would be and report back.

Looking forward to your feedback.
Looks like you are going with the generic 4"span perspective.

Consider adding your release specs to your signature. It makes discussing layouts and ball reactions much easier.

I knew this had come around in discussions with tonypr and mo before about the val angle :)

So Mo's veredict is that VAL angle is the same as for center of span balls and that the third hole will cause different reactions when placed in non thumbhole locations (like for example the PAP which will tame the ball reaction like was recommended to me back then... never did try it)... I know I have seen Kyle Troup uses pin above bridge and a balance hole on what appears to be his PAP in some of his balls, something similar was what Mo recommended to me in that thread...

Mo, now would be a good time to come back to Bowling Chat...

Ok, I re read this:

http://radicalbowling.com/tech-docs/a-r ... l-patterns" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In step 3 it says to draw a line 1/2" less than the bowlers horizontal PAP, I am asuming this line is to be drawn from the cg marker. Is this correct? Now, it never says anything about choosing the VAL (which will define the VAL angle from the pin to PAP line). For these "no balance hole" layouts Mo's states that the pin to pap distance is the most important factor. Of course this assumes that good ball selection was made and that surface will be adjusted to tune the reaction.

Comments anyone?

Yes you are correct the 2nd arc is drawn from the Cg in step 3.
This is to position the Cg in the ring finger.

Those layouts in the drilling instructions look all very weak because they don't have a balance hole in the P4 area.

I think that is the intent to be weaker layouts because of the general rev dominance of the no thumb bowlers.

The instruction said "draw a line 1/2" less than the bowlers horizontal PAP". How to work out that 1/2" less? From the diagram, the 1st arc (PIN-PAP) and the 2nd (CG-PAP) are both 4 1/2" from the PAP.

Did I miss something?

Yes the PAP coordinate is given in the diagrams, 5 " over and 1" down to the Center of the Grip

The layout chosen has a 4 1/2" pin to PAP
1/2" less than the horizontal PAP measurement is 4 1/2"
