Balls with core at 10 lbs

Post by TonyPR »

Hello, I need to build a Jr Gold arsenal for an 11 year old female athlete who rolls 10 lbs. I tried changing her to 12 lbs and decided to test her with 5 games a day for 3 days to test her endurance. She is used to bowling about 25 games every week with 10 lbs and does so comfortably, energetic and without fatigue. Yesterday was her first day and she did suprisingly well but today fatigue started to show as the weight of the 12 pounder was adversely affecting her armswing, ball speed and release. As much as she wanted to go up to 12 lbs because she understands the limitations in carry and ball drilling we have with 10 lbs she accepted the fact that she still needs to get a bit stronger. Now I wont discard the idea of 12 lbs as we still have over 3 months but I need to start training her on sport shots.

The only balls I have seen that appear to have a core at 10 lbs are the Hammer Blue urethane and the 900 Global Boost. The Storm Breeze and Brunswick Rhino also seem to have a small light bulb core.

Her league will provide a Hammer Rebel Solid and a Hammer Rebel Pearl. Does anyone know if these come with a pin out core at 10 lbs?

What other balls can you confirm come with a core at 10 lbs?

I need verifiable info. If no one knows I could try to email EBI to see if they can give me this information. By the way the girl is my daughter.

REBEL BALL SPECS

COLOR Blue/Orange
REACTION Strong Overall Hook
COVERSTOCK NBT Solid
FACTORY FINISH 500/2000 Abralon®
BEST LANE CONDITION Medium to Heavy Oil
CORE Rebel
CORE TYPE Symmetrical
AVAILABLE WEIGHTS 10-16lbs.
RG / DIFFERENTIAL
#16 RG (2.49) Diff (.039)
#15 RG (2.48) Diff (.044)
#14 RG (2.49) Diff (.046)
#13 RG (2.56) Diff (.030)
#12 RG (2.63) Diff (.025)
#11 RG (2.69) Diff (.020)
#10 RG (2.75) Diff (.017)
Im going to say no. Thats pancake weight block territory with RG and Diff.
Best you can do is the PBA Plastic Ball layout to maximize the diff ratio for the most dynamic reaction possible with low diffs.

Best of luck.

Thank you Eric. What would you say would be good indicator RG and Diff numbers to conclude a ball has a core?

Maybe at 11 lbs? RG 2.69 Diff .020 for the Rebels?

It seems like the Ebonite Cyclone for sure has a core in 11 lbs: RG 2.67 Diff .059

Am I correct on the Blue Hammer
10 lbs RG 2.72 Diff .031
11 lbs RG 2.62 Diff .031

Cyclones can hook A LOT, I've seen it. Very tuneable.
2.62 / .031 is not a pancake most likely, but probably a generic bulb-like core in it.

Ok, so maybe what I can do is just order the Rebels 12 lbs and save them for when she can handle them, RG 2.63 Diff .025 do you think we have a core there?

If not just get em 15 lbs for me or try to get them to change them to two 11 lbs Cyclones or an 11 lbs Cyclone and an 11 lbs Blue Hammer although I was told the deal was with Rebels and since they are free I can't just say no...

Maybe she can handle 11 lbs...

Maybe? Im no engineer and im not a rep for that company so its a guess.
If its above .030, I'd say yes, core. .020 COULD be a pancake, thats close to the diff limit I've seen out there. Dont forget, the original hammer core was .020 too. Big difference. Too close too call that low.

Yea, I guess I'll just email Hammer... will let you know what they say, if 12 lbs is pancake and I can't substitute them for 11 lbs Cyclones then I guess 15 lbs for me... I am paying for her arsenal and league anyway jejeje...

Ok, here's what Hammer tech support replied:

Hi Antonio,

None of our balls in the lower weights have pancakes. They all have some sort of core that is not a pancake. The only ball that we use only a pancake in is the C300 Scouts.

Thanks!
