Layout help

Post by TheDudeMan »

Here are the items we need in order to recommend a proper layout:

What hand you bowl with: Right
Speed: 14.5 - 15 monitor
Rev Rate: 225
Initial Axis Rotation: 60*
Initial Axis Tilt: 13*
What surface you want the ball for: synthetic
What lane condition you are bowling on most of the time: 41ft med-heavy house
Pap: 4 1/8, 3/8 up

Bowler likes to play up the boards around 2nd arrow. Looking for house layouts for sym and asym. Thank you

Also wanting to check if a control layout for this bowler would be 50-4.5-60 for sym?

I'm not one of the experts around here on dual angles, but by my figuring...

Angle sum of 90* benchmark ratio of 1.75:1
Asymmetrical Benchmark of 60x4x30
Asym Control of 60x4x50

To adjust asym layouts to sym you add 5 to drill angle and subtract 5 from val angle...

Sym benchmark 65x4x25
Control 65x4x45

As I said I'm not an expert...so my numbers may be off slightly, I'd wait for someone else to verify or correct me before proceeding.

Your wondering of control for them being 50x4.5x60 is not correct...that is a 1:1.25 ratio. This bowler does not have high enough speed dominance nor high tilt/rotation to warrant a ratio that low.
PAP 5x1 1/8
15.5mph off hand
260-270rev rate
7* tilt
70* rotation

Benchmark 90* totals 1.5:1 Ratio 55-4-35
I lowered the ratio because of the rotation in combination with the little bit of speed dominance.

Asymmetric
Benchmark ............... 55-4-35
Long and Strong ....... 75-4-35
Control ..................... 55-4-55
Low flare .................. 75-2.5-35

Symmetrical
Benchmark ............... 60-4-30
Long and Strong ....... 80-4-30 Motion Hole
Control ..................... 60-4-50
Low flare................... 65-5-30

60-4-50 I figured is pin in the ring finger.

50-4.5-60 is pin Almost in the middle finger, I would describe this layout as low flare control and make the pin to PAP 4.75 to put the pin completely in the middle finger.
The 50* drilling angle as measure to the Cg should give you good options for a balance hole to tune the reaction and make it stronger.

Question for Eric, for your list of suggested layouts for above bowler, would there be a drastic change if bowlers tilt was 17*, and rotation was 70*? Just curious, thanks.

Raising those specs will result in longer skid zones.
I would subtract 5* from the Drilling Angles. Lowering the totals and ratios. Or use the same and use lower surface grits.
