layout

Post by mergy »

Hi Eric, how about an "All Purpose Layout" for a DV8 Turmoil Solid @14lb.0oz.,2.5TW,3.25Pin for THS.

I'm a senior bowler with 190 average.

I don't mess with ball surface,except cleaning.

I would like to use this ball thru 3 games and handle transition by moving.

My Stats:

RH
45 rotation
14 tilt
225 Revs
13 MPH off hand
PAP=47/8>3/4^

Thanks for help!

I would go with a Control layout xx-4.25-50 (Pin in the Ring Finger)

PAP 4.75" up 1/2"
45* rotation
12* tilt
330 rev rate

I don't understand how to begin this layout if you
don't have a drill angle number.

Could you elaborate on this so I could better understand.

Thanks,

Put the cg wherever you like, new rules it doesn’t matter on a symmetrical ball.

So, do you start layout with pin in the ring finger and CG ends up in the palm center and work from their to get other finger holes and PAP and PIN distance from PAP?

You just pick a number, depends on where you want to see it. It doesn’t effect ball motion on symmetrical.

So you could say 70x4.25x50 if you want it in the palm or 45x4.25x50 if you like it offset

So, what number do you pick for drill angle,so the pin ends up in the ring finger with my specs?

The 50 Val determines that off your PAP. The midpoint of the gripping holes are located in relation to theVAL and PAP.

By ignoring the CG (for the most part) the True DA on a symmetrical ball will end up 6-3/4" from the pin on a line thru the thumbhole where the 'mass bias' of a drilled symm will be within an inch or so. The CG will only be of concern as far as staying within the parameters of the 3oz rule. Laying out by drawing a line from the Pin thru the CG is meaningless in the end. This is why the DA on a symmetrical ball is not specified.

So, for a 4-1/4" Pin to PAP set @ 50* it will land in the ring finger vicinity if not directly in it! VAL angles of less than 50* will put the pin above the fingers and VAL ^ of 60* + will put the pin below the finger holes.

This looks like a good place to hijack the thread and ask a question about ball surface. Surface preparation is a major key in shooting good scores. To help with making the ball playable for three games, what surface would you suggest? The literature suggests that 4000 is a good place to start for THS though it would change during lane play. Mergy has allowed lane/belt shine to dictate the ball surface that is 500/4000 OOB, and I am uncertain what ball surface is established by the lanes (I assume it varies).

So, what surface would you recommend that works on THS and hold up the best for 3 or more games.

Depends on the ball, but I like solids at 4K and pearls scuffed with 2k.

Dull surfaces 2000 grit and lower you can expect the need for refreshing the surface every 3 to 6 games.
I wouldn't recommend surfaces this dull except for the speed dominant on THS conditions.

For a Matte surface I am finding a 3000 grit final grit equivalent is a surface that holds up well.
Motiv's recommendation for this finish is 500/1000/2000

I am maintaining what I consider to be a "3000 grit " with a spinner, 2000 grit pad sanding 6 sides, top, bottom, finger, thumb, positive, negative.

Any type of shiny surface prep is going to easily last 3 games. I find myself rolling shinier equipment more times than not on a house shot.
