Ringfinger pain

Post by SST »

Some body can help me for this problem (see pics).
My customer have this pain on ringfinger and on the basis of index.
He is à crancker, 200+ average. The balls are drilled with ADT fingers and thumb, from a long time.

Kind of defines "grip it and rip it"

Here are a couple of questions I would ask...
Is there too much forward pitch in the ring finger?
It the span too long?

How many years constitutes a long time?
My grip span has shortened over the years. Also the ability for skin to heal degrades over time as well.
Maybe the fit has been not good from the beginning just now it is damaging older skin.

I was going to ask about type of finger grips used as a factor and also treating dry skin.
This thread discusses the cracking in the crease we see in the picture.
I remember using a liquid prescribed by Coach Rolf Gauger to deal with skin issues. Rose water and glycerin.

I was sort of a grip and rip guy and a desert bowler to boot.

The inserts are Vise Powerlift clear. As this guy is not a "manual" (not working with his hands, but with his head.....hihihi...), his skin is soft flesh. We changed the quality of inserts in December. We switched from Vise white to clear. I think the clear are more agressif than white. We are trying Vise oval in white or yellow. Perhaps maybe he's too deep in his phalanx. We are working on those two problems.
The spans and pitches are OK. Checked by an other Proshop operator.

Would plugging an old ball to try bowling without finger inserts be worth a try?
Many of us get used to the grips and breaking a habit is tough.

I'm guessing that a fair percentage of people would be better off without them.
The advent of protective tapes and increasingly potent equipment might make grips less necessary.

At any rate, the inserts are one of the variables involved.

Just wondering ...

There are several threads on to use of not to use.
Here is one
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=640&p=5518&hilit=Inserts#p5518" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hope you find some value in this ...

As a bridge to getting used to a new feel, trying a light house ball and rolling no thumb, might help in the decision process. Start light, add weight.
As Mo had said, it is a feel thing. But it might be worth trying.

The power lift Vise inserts add forward pitch (about 1/8") and lengthen the span. I wonder if simply trying Vise ovals would be worth a shot as a test to see if decreasing the span a pinch and lessening the forward pitch from the inserts may help. It could be worth getting back in the fitting ball and checking things from scratch again if it's been a while since this bowler has been fit.

I agree with Maine Man on the ovals vs lifts, also, get that man some hand cream. If the skin is real dry, like in the picture, it crack much easier.
