Yeti - Eyes wide open
I bought a Yeti on eBay, and it ended up having a MOtion hole already in it, and in a flare safe area for me. So I decided to get it to the pro shop for a grip move, and keep the MOtion hole.
So I went to the shop today and brought my Aggressive Motion from the MOtion hole video just to compare the times.
Spin times:
Aggressive Motion: 5.6 Seconds
Yeti: 4.2 Seconds
WHOAAAAAA!!!!!
4.2 seconds? That kind of number is reserved for STRONG asymmetrics, not an out of box symmetric.
Just to put that into perspective, my double thumbed LevRG Response spins in 4.5 seconds and that is a very strong asymmetrical core, .046/.028.
Mo wasnt boasting by saying: "The Yeti core is a camouflaged monster".
It really is, and the determinator confirms it.
Now, I'll be heading out onto the lanes with this on Viper, but im not exactly sure this is the right ball for that oil pattern now considering the spin time. This may be better suited for Scorpion in 2 weeks.
Expect a comparison video between the Aggressive Motion and the Yeti sometime in the near future, just to frame the difference between the HUGE core in the Aggressive Motion and the advanced offset technology in the Yeti.
I may be able to retire my LevRG Response now that I've found a fast spin time ball to match up best on longer patterns. That conclusion will be made after some testing.
1.5 oz top
.75 oz thumb
.5 oz side
Fingers to 2 3/4" deep
Thumb 1 3/8" bit, 3.5 deep
Motion hole 1 1/16" bit 4" deep
16 lbs ball made it to 15.2 lbs.
Final layout ended up 57 x 3.5 x 25, but thats somewhat mushy with the MOtion hole effect.
Note: Those numbers are almost to the "T" my Double Thumb final numbers, should be interesting...
Stay tuned!

How do you compare spin time to ball motion?
Would a faster spin time be a more angular ball motion?

The faster the spin time, the quicker the ball responds to friction, coverstocks being equal.EricHartwell wrote:How do you compare spin time to ball motion?

Do faster spin times lead to shorter hook zones?
In my understanding faster spin times are a result of strong asymmetrics. Therefore stronger asymmetrics should normally end up in higher differential ratios which result in shorter hook zones.

Correct, sir! Low spin times indicate higher intermediate differentials.kbN wrote:Do faster spin times lead to shorter hook zones?

So, to bring ths back to my original question and to solidify my understanding faster spin times equate to higher intermediate differentials, quicker response to friction, shorter hook zone and a more angular shape.
With all this said, would a ball with such charactoristics be best suited for deeper inside lines?

Depends on the bowler and lane condition.EricHartwell wrote:With all this said, would a ball with such charactoristics be best suited for deeper inside lines?
When friction is at a premium on a pattern, you want to get the ball to the roll phase as quickly as possible.
Speed dominant guys who have a hard time getting the ball to face up, probably best suited for that situation as well.

Mav, let us know how you make out on Viper with this MOtion holed Yeti. In my experience this will be way too much ball for that pattern. (Caveat, if you naturally have less than 30* of axis rotation or can well control your axis rotation) this ball and drilling transitions extremely quickly (snap).
I’ve tried it and it was barely controllable. I ultimately averaged 215 using a control drilling on a Mojave.
I would appreciate your experience.
Thanks

It will be the first ball I try in practice, but I am bringing other controllable balls in the anticipation that it will not be the right matchup for Viper. Possibly by the end of the night though, this new Kegel oil pushes down the lane rather than dissipate. Im thinking the Black Pearl Reactive, possibly my high load particle Ogre may be a better look on the fresh, we'll see!

Re: Yeti - Eyes wide open
Viper with the Yeti
The owner is using new Kegel oil, and this stuff is slick, and pushes rather than dissipate.
It gives the illusion that the patterns are about 2 feet longer then they really are.
The Yeti was very useable on this condition with this oil.
I made a lot of self inflicted mistakes missing easy spares and getting jipped on split attempts by hairs, but that has nothing to do with this ball. Not sure what was wrong with me last night, no excuses.
Lane 3 was the hang lane and Lane 4 was more playable.
Manged 160-225-180-190, and each of the games could have been +20 with better spare shooting.
Carry was good, was disappointed with one pocket 7-10 but that was more the hang downlane on lane 3 than the ball itself. The cover isnt quite as strong as I thought it would be, and im glad I hit it with white scotch brite. My Black Pearl Reactive with the same layout really labored on lane 3 with the volume.
We'll see if I can get my act together next week.
Good so far, but its early, onward ho!

My center switched to this stuff as well. The switch happened about two weeks into my summer sport league, and it has had the same effect. Seoul played like it was three feet longer, and Beijing last week was surprisingly playable for me.MegaMav wrote:The owner is using new Kegel oil, and this stuff is slick, and pushes rather than dissipate.
Kegel weren't messing around when they developed this stuff. With just a touch too much speed, it makes a mockery of my Sync, and that has a WAY more aggressive cover than the Yeti.

Speed: 15.5-16 on monitor
Tilt: 17-18
Axis Rotation: Preferred 70, on viper, was a little less, closer to 55-60.

Re: Yeti - Eyes wide open
I have video of the Yeti vs. Aggressive Motion.
Bottom line, same layout, the Yeti has more recovery than the Aggressive Motion.
Length is very similar, but about 7 and 3 stronger, and even 10 and 4 was flush.
With the Motion hole all you need to do is get the ball to the pocket and it does the rest.
Its just so good, im impressed with the 24 hours i've had with it.
Im icing my knee at the moment, so I wont have the video done until at least tomorrow, but its impressive the amount of boards this matched player can cover with it.
32 to 2 wasnt out of the question, or out of play, crazy.

Re: Yeti - Eyes wide open
Eric mirrors my sentiments exactly. The ball is really a sleeper.
My Motion hole numbers ended up 95x 3-1/2 x 55 with a 3/4 x 3" hole. I hit mine with a 4000 grit Siaair pad.
As long as I got the ball to the dry, it got to the pocket and annihilated the pins. As I have stated elsewhere, the only issue I am having is learning the moves I need to make as the lanes transition. My regular adjuistments do not consistently result in the change I am seeking.
If you check out my video, every shot that leaves a 10 pin was tight and didn't feed out to the dry to split the 8-9.

Take the Motion Hole to 3 1/2" deep if you use an It, or 4" deep if you use anything else. Try it at 2000 first. If you want it to hit more in the oil, make the MOtion Hole slowly bigger. I saw the video. Bring it with you to Saratoga. Look forward to seeing you again.

Here we go with the video again.
Not exactly the lane condition I would use these 2 on, but it shows how deep you can really play.
The Yeti has tested my limits and comfort playing left, and passed.

Well done, Mav! Your game looks very good. Polished! I remember when. I still have that image in my mind. Thanks!

How's it feel to cover some boards when you need to now Eric????
As I said I am VERY impressed but I still need to learn my adjustments.
The ball motion is so different that my adjustments through the night are more extreme than I am used to using.
